my 96 ctd is a 4x4. i am having a lot of vibration noise coming from the manual floor 4x4 control shifter at highway speeds. its pretty noisey. when i put my hand on it it stops making the noise. does anyone no what causes the vibration or why? is there something loose? it does not feel loose when i put it in 4x4

There is a TSB for that problem. The entire assy is mounted to the transmission/tcase up til about 97 i think. The 98 and newer ones have the assy mounted to the body and a rod only runs to the tcase, this reduced the vibrating problem. Myu 96 did the same thing,my dealer fixedi t with tsb,it was covered under warranty so i dont know what it cost. A good temp fix is to throw a heavy glove or towel over it,i did that for a while.
