2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 4x4 steering damper question

I have a 99 qc 4x4. My steering damper "shock" connects to the frame on one end. I have looked under many other trucks and noticed that other trucks have the damper mounted differently. What year did they change this? I have looked at many trucks and they all look different than mine.

Mine is mounted to the axle frame. My friends '99 or '00 1500 was mounted like this too I think. Is it a possibility that you have an aftermarket one?

I don't think it's aftermarket, because one mount is welded to the frame.
