4X4 will not disengage

It feels to me that the four wheel drive is not disengaging, even though the lever is in two wheel and the indicator light on the dash is out, the steering jerks back and forth when you turn sharp right or left. After a little work and driving it I can get it back to normal. Is this an adjustment or something going out? Or could this be part of the 720 recall?

I could be a linkage or vacuum problem.
