5.0 and iPod

2015 tradesman with 5.0 radio w/o integrated controls. I tried to hook up the iPod this afternoon and the truck wouldn't recognize the connection. I used the usb in the lower dash. All I got was Bluetooth on the screen. No ipod or aux lit up. Is it not available in this truck? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I just did a quick search on the subject, I think you have to change your source from Bluetooth to iPod. I found a video, I'll see if I can link it here in a minute. It would make sense that you would have to switch it from one input to another.

That's the 5.0 with integrated controls. Mine is without. When you look at his screen his iPod icon was highlighted. I can't get mine to do that. It's always in the background along with aux. Just the Bluetooth is lit. It could be that the iPod I'm trying to use is a shuffle that's years old. Next thing I'll try is some meditation to put me in a suitable frame of mind for customer service.

There's a USB in the"center back" of the 60/40 bench seat. I don't know what you call it, but you fold it down and open it and it's a small compartment. The USB under the dash only charges phones, but the one in the center back charges and allows iPod use. It's annoying, because I'll be listening to the radio, and I plug in my iPhone to charge it, and it automatically switches to iPod. Just push the radio button, and it goes back to the radio. It's funny, because I asked about why the USB won't play my iPod, I was told the 5.0 didn't have iPod capability, ya sure it doesn't I thought, and found out the center back works.

Oh this stuff is getting so technical......does someone have a NEWER i-pod you could try??? Shuffle may not be compatible???

Have you got a cable so you can "Aux IN" something and see if the icon brightens up?? I have been checking the 5.0 manual for both with and without integrated center stack..still shows the "Media" button...

And no, I'm not going to get a new truck so I can figure it out.....

Thanks for the help guys. I just got off the phone with customer service. Nice young man. Hasn't got a clue. He mentioned an aux port but couldn't tell me where it was located. RV, thanks for the heads up. I thought about the folding console but my dog hair repellant seat cover renders it unavailable. I'll pull the cover in the morning before work and let you fellas know how I make out. I'd bet a farm out west it'll work. The message I got was no usb connected. Now I know why. TDR should get royalties from Fiat for handling the problems their employees can't.

I pulled the seat cover and found the usb and aux ports. Still no joy. Sense my old iPod shuffle isn't listed in the documents Mike has supplied I'm going to have Jackie pick up a flash drive while she's in town today. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks.

Aux in may work if you have a spare 3.5 cable but there will be no integrated control of the Shuffle. Will you be able to control the music using the flash drive I wonder??

I remember now. If it's like the My Gig in my van you can suck the music onto the hard drive. Oh this technology........

The 5.0 is fickle, I've had problems connecting the phone at times. I'll leave and not notice my phone didn't connect, then have to turn phone off then back on and it's a 50/50 chance it'll reconnect. So as a test this AM after reading jhenderson's post. I tried the iPod and it wouldn't play, only Bluetooth. So I turned off Bluetooth and reconnected my phone to the USB and it played the iPod then restarted Bluetooth and now I have both connected. You need to play with the 5.0 to get it to work. Notice both Bluetooth and iPod icons are lit up.

Jackie brought home a 16 gig flash drive and the truck recognized it. Hot dog! Now to load the tunes. I can't just load the whole file because my mate and I have very different taste in music. This may take a while. I think I can skip or fast forward songs using the radio when it's needed. Things are pretty sad when the newest entertainment contraption in the house isn't good enough to work in a pickup truck. Thanks again for helping the dinosaur with his new fangled gizmo.

It never ends. Apparently 1/2 the music I have stored on iTunes is protected and cannot be down loaded onto anything other than an Apple device. This seems kind of like a time share. You buy it, but you don't really own it.

One of the reasons that I HATE i-Tunes.

I bought it, I want it in whatever damn device that I choose. The Amazon music is a lot better deal, a lot of it is free as long as you are a Prime member. Whatever you purchase goes onto your hard drive if you so choose. It's yours, no BS...

I run a combination of Sirius and Pandora both at home and work, add songs from Amazon when I hear something I like on either source. Usually free but I did spend a couple bucks yesterday....."Chelsea Dagger" came on and I just had to own it......

Many of you have heard it at Sporting events, Etc.., but didn't know what it was....

He's using a shuffle....which has left been to die by the software writing folk as the technology marched on.......

I own a lot of Apple products and still hate i-Tunes....

BTW, Apple certainly turned around on the terrorist i-Phone that they refused to unlock....now the government did it in spite of them and Apple's panties are in a bunch, they want to know how it was done.

I'd tell Apple to wish in one hand and ***** in the other....arrogant asshats....
