plan on change in December. Truck sits in slightly heated shop most of the time. Got it to haul tt spring & fall mostly. It may need to run a few short trips this winter but not planning on many. I use this oil in my tractor already & we can get it for a fair price around here. I see that it is blessed by Cummings & okay with FCA . Any good reasons I should go with the heavier wt ? T6 doesn't come in the heavier wt.

This chart from my diesel supplement says you are fine with either multiweight.

Personally, since it won't go below zero in your shop, I would opt for the heavier multiweight.

And since you plan to leave it sitting most of the winter.... My experience is the heavier weight will be slightly slower dripping into the oil pan. The heavier multiweight will be more likely to leave oil film on the surfaces because it is thicker & will take longer to drain.

Starting & running it weekly (or twice a week) is what I would do with 15w 40.

People run T6 year round without problems. It's a good oil. Especially if you put alot of miles on it (running it almost daily.).

Amsoil is a bit more expensive, but they make an excellent 15w 40 full synthetic that I've been using (I use the OE). That's my preference.

People who use T6, will stand by it. Since it is proven.

I use 5W-40 T6......it is just fine to use year round as the chart above shows. I use T6 because it's easy to get (Walmart) and its price. If they offered a 15W-40, at Walmart, for the same price....I'd probably use it in the summer. Since they don't, I don't lose any sleep over using 5w-40.
 
I have run Rotella T6 in both my '05 and now my '14. Its a fantastic diesel oil. You will have no problems with it. I have had oil analysis done on it and it always has come back great even at longer intervals.
 
T6 is better protection at high oil temperature, if you tow heavy over steep grades, I believe it is better then conventional 15/40 rottella.
 
AMZ/OIL pour temp is -46 with premium 5-40 and -40 with 15-40.

I would stick with 15-40 in AMZ/OIL not that much difference. 4 ball wear test is the same for both 0.51
 
After doing a bit more oil research today, i would suggest redline 15-40 full syn. It is the clingiest oil that will adhere to your engine parts while it sits in a 45-60 degree shop. This redline oil seems to have the best sheer protection and is the thickest 15 w -40. That's what you want if not driving it much and you don't have multiple sub zero starts..... where it sits outside overnight.

I've seen numerous tests done on diesel oils . I should have book marked the last one I read. It had to do with abrasion some very $$$ oils didn't do well. Currently thinking 15-40 RP for when I'm really using the truck. I hate to use this oil in the cold I've seen tests that show how thick this is . I understand you can't have it all. If I can find that test I'll attempt to post a link to it
