That is only with the HEMI - trust me



There is no 5-speed auto for the diesel right now, especailly not the 5-45rfe

What TomyGun says is true, the current 5 speed 5-45RFE won't begin to hold up to the Cummins. Hopefully we'll get a Mercedes engineered, American built 5 speed auto.
 
hemi trucks like stated, and then it has electronic torque control to limit power down low. I ask do you know any cummins guy that would buy that? they limit power down low on the 4. 7 with the unit.
 
I was beginning to wonder because I immediately did a search in Yahoo and found that it was used with gas motors. Thanks for the info...
 
Actually dodge automatics arn't that bad. They would hold up fine behind a chevy or ford. But its the mighty cummins that will tear up any auto short of a trans designed by the creator himself

The 727 on which our automatic transmission is based was well ahead of the other autos of the time. The first 426 Hemis were only offered with the 727 because Mopar didn't have a 4 speed to handle the torque. In the 1970s, larger Dodge trucks were offered with a LoadFlite auto transmission. This was a 727 with a "compounder" on the rear where the overdrive is on our transmsissions. The compounder was a low granny or field gear to help the 413 truck engines move loaded 2 ton trucks. The 727 was the only automatic transmission that I know of that didn't use engine vacuum to control shifting, making it a natural for a Diesel engine. After 40 years of development on the original design, I'm sure a new design from scratch could be better, but I have been very happy with the automatic in my 2003 HO.
