Cummins 350???

Test Drove new 6.0 6-speed Today...My Impression (Long)

On the way home from work this morning I was watching a new

Dodge in my rear view mirror and I can see gaining on me,

moving in and out of traffic pretty quickly till he gets up

beside me. I look it over and its a 3/4 t. QC with Hemi badges on

the front fenders and it just so happens that the car in front of

me makes a turn so we end up side by side at the light. A quick

look around to make sure that the coast is clear and I thought

I'd like to see how these Hemis run. He kinda looks down his

nose at my big old tank and we both get into the throttle a little

bit at a time, which works good for me because by the time we

are all the way into it I've already got 20 lbs or so of boost and

away we go. He won't even look over at me, big ole dually with

a diesel just took everything that Hemi had and I don't think that

he liked that. I gotta grow up someday!

Wanna have some real fun throw 4000 lbs in the bed of both trucks and then find a nice 8% incline just for laughs and watch that Hemi gag for air! Oo.

The best pass I've seen a stock Hemi make was a shortbed 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive and he only ran a 15. 40 at 89 mph. His attitude before that pass led me to believe that he had been watching the Hemi commercials to much. :D Dodge needs to make a commercial using the new HO Auto instead.

HEMI milage????

From what I've heard, the hemi milage sucks with a capital "S"!!! 12-13 isn't very good milage in my book, especially in the Dakota -my memory may not be so good, but I seem to recall 14-16 mpg in my '95 Dakota, and 13-15 in my '97 1500. I've talked to several owners of new Dodge gassers, and I've been appalled at the milage reports.

I finally transformed my Ford owning buddy to a 2500 Dodge. My '03 2500 SO doesn't raise any adrenalin. We took a HO/48RE for a ride. Very comparable to the 6. 0 PSD when the PSD is running. Then we took a 2500 HEMI for a ride. WOOD! So he located a Loaded 2500 Laramie LB QC HEMI and is no longer a Fraud owner. He's getting 14mpg average around town. 15. 4 ET ain't bad at all for a stock 6500 lb truck. That truck is an animal right out of the box. He got alot of truck for $28,800. I suspect the V-10 will give way to a bigger badder HEMI in the near future. :D

My Nephew recently bought a new 1500 4x4 short bed Hemi with the 20" wheels. He took me for a spin. Well it's faster then my wifes 6 cylinder Landcruiser. He has limited slip and can't burn rubber. These things have traction control??? :) or are the 20" tires providing the great traction  A pickup truck with a Hemi that can't break the rear wheels loose sucks :(

Parcher is correct, unfortunately. The V10 is discontinued. I loved my 97. Yes, the Hemi makes more ponies, but my 97 made 450 lb ft, and hauled a$$! But, all the "average Joe" cares about is HP, and the Hemi makes more of it.

Dodge has shot themselves in the foot a second time now - no crew cab, and now, again, no big block gasser to compete with Ford or Chevy. For those that tow or haul heavy, and don't want a diesel, will now be forced to go to Ford or Chevy.

My 97 got about 10 mpg around town. It's my understanding that the Hemi gets 11-12. Is that REALLY that much of a difference?

My brother has one. Around town driving real aggressive he gets 10-12 mph. He had a ford v10. Says the hemi is faster. The v10 got 8-10 mpg. He uses the trucks for work. Has em loaded with just shy of a ton of tools and parts. I told em to buy a used diesel if he didnt want to suffer the effects of depriciation so badly. But he dont listen to good.

The 15. 40 was a 1/2 ton short bed 2 wheel drive that weighed around 4100 to 4300 tops. The Chevies were eating his lunch all night with their 5. 3 engines. The other Hemi at the track was also a 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton but was a long bed and his best pass was a 15. 47. And neither one of them could brake the tires loose on the line. That tells me they have no bottom end torque. The 2500 series Hemi's are probably somewhere in the mid to low 16s. I'll be glad when someone shows up with one of the SRT 10 trucks to support the Dodge gasser camp. Dodge rated this Hemi at 345 hp and the Fraud Lightning is rated at 380 hp. To only be showing a 35 hp difference the close to 11/2 second difference between the trucks makes me think Dodge overrated their hp level like they did on the 360 trucks. You could buy an HO automatic. Put an EZ on it and not only outrun the Hemi but get twice the mileage.

I haven't seen one of the new hemi's yet, but I'm guessing they must be doing something wrong if they can't get the tires to break loose. I had an 86 mazda b2000 with 220,000 miles on it, and i could break those loose.

Ben

My 21 year old nephew can't break his loose and trust me he trys ;) All I can say is though 20" tires must be real real sticky or the Hemi has the off the line torque of a VW

Hey Speedo (Gus) - next time you see Clayton ask him about his HEMI experience... he was laughing so hard on the phone I had trouble understanding him. .

I have tried to race a few HEMI's but they never want to play, same goes for everyting else. . You would think with the big EDGE Diesel Performace stickers in the side windows of my topper I would attract floks. . but no. Maybe thats it, maybe people know how fast a hopped up diesel is. :D

I don't think my buddy cares what's going on at the drag strip. If the Chevy's new 327 will outrun Dodges 341, so be it. They're both animals. If Dodge comes out with a new 426 HEMI and the Chevy 327 outruns it, then something's wrong. I still say he got alot of truck for $28,800. I don't know if they have torque management or not. A new Corvette won't smoke the tires either. Throw some bias ply F78/15s on it and you'll get the smoke you're looking for. Loss of traction doesn't mean it's fast.

I wouldn't mind having one for myself but I can't afford both. Maybe I'll trade the wife's Durango... Nah, probably better not even try that. :D

No more V-10? There's a '03 dually on our local lot now with a V-10. I just went to Dodge.com and it's still listed in the build list. Gone for 2004?
