5.7 to 6.2 diesel?

Can you use a 6. 2 diesel in a vehicle that has a 5. 7 in it? My great granddad is looking to find a diesel Olds or Caddy. I would think you could swap. You could get a 5. 7 in chevy c10 pickups, and I would assume it would have a turbo 350 behind it, which many a 6. 2 had.

Yes i dont think you would have any problems switching it out. I have replaced 350's with 6. 2's in pickups a few times and worked great. I have had the 5. 7 and 6. 2 diesels and had good luck with them. I had a 1986 1/2 ton auto chevy pickup with a 6. 2 diesel and put 800,000 on it . :--) Yes thats right!! It was used hard too with no major problems. We got 2 with the 6. 5 and didnt get 70,000 on them and major engine and transmission problems so went all cummins now with no problems. You should easily do the switch.

It can be done but it is not a simple swap. The 5. 7 GM diesel is based on an Olds gas engine and has the Olds bolt pattern on the back and the 6. 2 uses the Chevy bolt pattern. Swapping a 6. 2 in place of a 5. 7 Chevy gas motor is much easier.

TWilkening, if he's wanting an olds or Caddy with a diesel I wouldn't automatically write the 5. 7 off. Get one with the DX block (80 up I think), the main bolts screw in deeper and they had fewer problems, plus they have roller cams. From what I read if you install a set of ARP studs for the mains and head bolts the 5. 7s will live a long time if you warm them up properly. There is a guy on the Diesel Page with a early 90s Chevy 1/2T that he built an Olds diesel for and swapped in. He's pretty happy with it, says it's faster than the 6. 5 that was in there (whatever that's worth) and he "claims" 30mpg.
