My BIL 's coach is going into limp mode. The first mechanic said it was overheating but it doesn't show on the gauge.
It was taken to Cummins shop and the codes say bad turbo, as in the fins are gummed up and fused together. They want 4900 to replace it.

I could see low power if turbo is bad but go into limp mode. It goes into limp mode after a half mile is all. Would that cause it….just looking to see if that is possible and looking for other suggestions. thanks

$4900.00 to change a turbo???? Wow.....

What year is that chassis??? Is he sure that it is a 5.9L??? This is sounding more like a sticking turbo actuator from the comfort of my office.

Mike.

it was scanned with cummins software at cummins repair place. They will be doing the work. 03 frieghtliner 5.9

Insite or Insight.

He might to go to a Cummins certified truck dealer for a second opinion and quote. Can't hurt to check.

What they are saying is that $4900 to replace a turbo is high...even in a PITA chassis.
I would want to know the number and description of any code(s).

It is at a cummins truck repair place. A big one in Cleaveland.

If your BIL wants a second opinion I know a very respectable shop outside of Cleveland. It is probably 40 miles give or take depending on where he is and is almost a straight shot down I90 East. When the PCM in my truck went south I took my truck there on the advice of my trans builder. They are the only place that has ever touched any of my trucks. Very honest and respectable family owned shop. If he wants their number PM me for it and I will gladly give it to you.
