I was just poking through some Mercruiser stuff and found that they are teamed with Cummins. What caught my eye was the horsepower ratings in the brochure of 480hp. Now, they limit you to 1 hour out of 8 at full power for that rating, but it gives a person an idea how far de-tuned our truck engines really are at 325hp.

Marine engines have air to water intercooler, cooled turbo (I think), and unlimited cold water available. Our engines have an oil to coolant heat exchanger, so having cooler oil, helps the oil jets keep pistons cooler. I think they run a bigger, laggier turbo, which lets them pump more air thru the engine.
