Hey guys, will this Donaldson ELF 7349 work on my 2002 truck? Are they bigger/ longer then the Fleetguard from Geno's? I will order some if it fits. Do they really filter better?
Thanks.
Ilian

ENafziger, can you tell us what years the Donaldson ELF7349 filter fits? I now have a 90, 96, and a 98. Im thinking they should all be the same filter. Thanks, Larry

Yep, like NavyDood said, fits them all! It actually fits all Cummins 4B and 6B.

how long are yall running them for?

It depends on your environment, oil selection, power level, overfueling, sustained oil temp, etc. I usually change at 7,500 miles even with synthetic Amsoil, bypass filtration, filter mags, etc, due to soot loading of the oil... that is if I have things turned up to ~600 hp like usual. If I back the power down to ~450 hp and go on extended trips, I may go 10k.

When I purchased my 05 Dodge Ram 6 years ago this month, the dealer gave me a 7 year free oil and oil filter changes, plus chassis lube. I have one more year to go, then I'll go back to changing my own oil and oil filter again.

I want to stay with Fleetguard filters. Question is, which filters do I want. I see in Geno's catalog an oil filter, LF3972 for $7. 95 and a LF16035 for $12. 95.

In addition I see an air filter AF26106 for $14. 95 and a AF53034249for $26. 95.

There is only one fuel filter which is a FS19856 for $14. 95.

All above filters are for 03 to 07, 5. 9 Cummins.

Oil is another story. On my 95, I used 15W40 Delo 400, CI-4. I wish I could still get it.

Any recommendations? george

The LF16035 is 25um vs the 35um for the OEM filter.

The FS19856 is a 7um filter, but the Baldwin PF7977 is 5um.

I am not sure on the air filter, I use an Amsoil one.

Hey Grizzly!

Look up a few posts at the posted micron ratings for different filters. The LF16035 has the Stratopore media.

Well, I have NOT been able to find a Cat p/n filter so... . I will continue to run the FLeetguard LF16035.

I can get the Fleetguard substancially cheaper than the Donaldson, and at 5K intervals, it would not be cost effective to buy the Donaldson. .

Started to buy a Napa XE, but it wasnt any cheaper than the Fleetguard...

So does the LF3894. It is the exact same filter minus the flutes on the end.

For air filter, use the new 4" deep pleated ones. Mopar number is 53034249AA which is identical to the WIX. WIX P/N is 49946 and Napa P/N is FIL9946 and is a reboxed WIX.

Thanks AH64ID and ENafziger.

Sounds like ordering the DODGE DIESEL FILTER MAINTENANCE KIT - 4/2/1 ('03-'07, 5. 9L) for $95. 00 from Geno's, which includes;

4 oil filter, LF16035,

2 fuel filters, FS19856 and

1 air filter, AF53034249

may be my best bet.

If you want to stick with Fleetguard filters then thats a great kit to get. Make sure the Air Filter is the new 4" pleat one.

I wonder if Fram has improved their filters in recent years? When in Autozone or Walmart I don't spend anytime in the Fram section, however yesterday I noticed a new colored box, Fram Heavy Guard. I pulled out a filter, about the size of the Cummins and was surprised to see 6 large oil holes in the end, like Fleetguard/Baldwin has. Most low cost filters have the 8 little ones. I read the box and it said made in USA by Honeywell a division of Fram, Prestone and Autolite. Just wonderin... ...

I never have understood why ppl get weird about the amount of holes on the bottom of the filter. As long as the total area of the small holes is equal to or greater than the total area of the return hole you are good to go. The outlet hole on our filter is 1" thread but that is not the return size at the filter mounting. The ID of the filter mounting oil passage is more like 3/4" back to the engine which would give it an area of . 442".

The Fleetguard LF16035 has 8 holes 3/8" in diameter giving you a total of . 880" of filter inlet area.
The EaO80 has 8 holes that are smaller than the Fleetguard LF16035. The holes aren't a perfect circle, they are an ellipse. Going with a standard 1/4" hole the area would be . 392" But since they are an ellipse, that would make the area a tad bigger which would put it greater than the return.

I was always under the impression that a 1" pipe would flow more liquid then 2 1/2" pipes. Would this be the same as fewer large holes v/s more smaller ones? Just seems like (especially when the oil is cold) the little holes would not flow well. Probably I am just weird... ..... :)

There was talk on the other forms about Fleetguard LF 9028 and the Baldwin BD7317 a dual bipass filter. Fleetguard makes it for the 5. 9 used in Kubota tractors. Talked to Fleetguard tech rep and they said it has the same flow rate and will fit on our trucks. They can not recomand it for our trucks because it is not listed as a cross ref. One of the fleetguard tech has been using one and likes it. Some people on the other forms has been using it for over a year. Fleetguard dealer has them on back order so I have a Baldwin I am going to use on the next oil change.

Don't do math in front of your friends. Haha.

I woke up this morning and my first thought was I screwed up what I posted yesterday three posts up. I had my numbers all wrong. I fixed my derrrr moment.
