Just talked to a repair shop owner about a 1999 2500 Dodge that had a catastrophic engine failure because pin (pressed in at factory) worked loose. Repair bill was close to $4,000. I also understand a after market fix (from Piers Diesel Research and others) is available for less than a $100. Does anyone have information about this problem? Or is it repair shop smoke and mirrors. I called several Dodge dealers and Cummins and got no help.

Thanks

search for 'KDP' (killer dowel pin). Its a fairly simple fix that you can do yourself with minimal tools. jsut time consuming. also, you dont need to buy a kit if you can source a bolt and fab a small plate. then buy the gaskets you need for the timing cover/housing.
