You can buy a used one that somebody has already fixed up for you for about HALF the money. If you like making trips to the service dept then buy a 6. 7.

I'd Say 5.9!

Don't know a whole lot about the new setup, but the dealers keep begging me to trade in my '05. They say that the demand is huge and can credit me more than I paid for it.

P. S. I'm not selling!

The only trips I have made to the service dept. , was for the cool aftermarket items I added to the truck or for routine maintenance. Obviously you dont have the 6. 7, you dont know anything about the 6. 7 except what you read here and the only thing was a reprogram of the reg trucks with the 6. 7 and a very small number (10 or 15)with the crank issue. My 6. 7 is awesome and when I want the 5. 9 feel I just start up my 04 and drive it. I am willing to bet you said the same about the common fuel rail engine's which I also own and glad I didn't listen to all the negitives when they came out.

As far as the problems with the 6. 7 it is limited to the higher HP version and was admitted by Dodge and was rectified ASAP unlike Ford who denied there were problems for years and would detune them when they came in for service and would say that was a recall and by law had too do it after the fact so the customers would not know it untill it was done. I know this because my students had it happen too them who had the 6. oh knows.

A 6. 7 owner and loving it.

Steve...

Get the '06 or '07 5. 9L truck. They've got lots of good de-bugged electronics and software in the transmission control and engine control modules. Much more so than earlier 3rd gen trucks. Much like Jelag, I've suffered through and not traded off older rigs as I waited better models and retirement. Closely watched & studied for more than a few years. '06 & '07 5. 9's are the pinnicle. I also run B-99 and believe my rigs perform at 2010 standards right now. The 6. 7L units will get their performance to where I'm at right now but not in a year or two. Cummins won't let them fall flat on their face like Ford/IH has but maybe 3-5 years is more realistic for 6. 7's out of the box to work as good as 5. 9's that are still available new today tho' not many left. Last but not least, the 6. 7's will NEVER be as economical in purchase, operation and maintenance. That ship has sailed. Get a new 5. 9L, run Bio-diesel and meet 2010 standards today.

If you buy the 5. 9, I would only get it with the G56 manuel trans, and you will like it much better for towing and reliability.

Yes , the maintenance will cost more with the new 6. 7, but I had no choice in the new engine because I needed a C&C for the service bed (B&W Elite series bed) that works great for me in the AC buisness I started.

I just bought the 07 5. 9l larime with the 48re with a 3. 73 rear. Was driving through the cascades and if you believe the overhead i got over 22 mpg and hand caculated 21. 65. not bad I only have 500 miles on it.

I am selling my '01. 5 with only 95k miles because I bought a '07 5. 9 G56 4X4. If you buy one with a G56, Get one that was produced in December 2006. It will have the taller 6th gear. I NEVER thought I would buy a 6 spd stick... . I LOVE it!!

I went 5. 9 because I don't want all of the emission junk AND I don't have to have my truck smogged every two years. In California, You have to have the 6. 7s smogged.

My 04. 5 has been quirky all along. Weird little glitches here and there and one constant one. The factory u-joints are junk, every last one of them. Ball joints don't last. NV5600 has been out of production for a few years and the replacement G56 had the wrong gearing. A lot of factory parts are suddenly showing up different now, ie. the front driveshaft, lift pump, and the exhaust manifold.

But the 5. 9's are the perfect truck and the 6. 7's are junk????

EDIT: How could I forget injectors????

Well after having 5 5. 9's and putting them through hell and back and not really having any major problems with them(except a burnt piston caused by an aftermarket injector that went bad) when I went to get a new one a 6. 7 was the last thing on my mind. My kid and the fleet manager talked me into driving a 6. 7, well now their is a new 3500 4x4 6. 7 in the garage!! I drove the guy nuts because I was not sure about the 6. 7 and drove it 4 times and the 5. 9 the same and then weighing the options including what I would have to put on the 5. 9 vs the already set up 6. 7. About the only thing I am not to sure on is the milage, but I had read before they were not as good as the 5. 9 so that is not that big of a suprise. Got to say this thing in stock form is impresive! now if something breaks I am no longer "my own warranty station" this one is staying stock!! I say test them both and see for your self. you might be as suprised as I was!!

Lets just say, if I had done my homework on TDR like your doing, I would have gotten a 5. 9 and not a 6. 7. I'm a little over 3K miles and so far I'm on my sixth different code. #@$%! Still waitin on the parts to come in. been three weeks

I just hit 4k today and all is well so far no codes etc yet. Mileage is no where near my 5. 9 though. I pulled my 7k trailer this weekend about 500 miles and I got about 10. 5 MPG. I use to get about 14 with old blue and I had much more power with mods, however this one is a much better ride. So I think I would have waited a bit longer to let the bugs get worked out if I were to do it again.

Just came home with a '07 3500 SRW 4x4 quad cab long bed... AUTO... . I LOVE it ! I traded in my '05 (same as above) with the Edge box on #4 (race)& AFE it would get 19 TRUE MPG, not on the overhead. Heck it always said 21-23 MPG !

The '07 doesnt have the HP the '05 did but... . the 6 spd. auto. seems to make it work in all RPM ranges. It is up to 18. 2 MPG on the overhead but... . TRUE MPG come from filling Approx. 38 gal. in the 35 gal tank. THEN calculate. I dont expect to get better than 14 until around 30K miles or so, time will tell.

Remember this all comes from an owner with 56 miles "experience" on an '07 !

Well after the first tank it was 11. 6 mpg!! This sure is nowhere near the 5. 9 millage even with all the hp I was pushin on the 05,but I like this truck better for some reason!! This fuel milage talk on here in my opinion is not to close on some posts always been that way though!!
