looking in to putting a 5" conventional exhaust system under my truck but having trouble finding even 4" systems who makes em?

You have a W series truck. A 4" system is tight going in. A 5" system will not clear the transfer case. There is not enough room between the case and frame rails.

After the case is no problem. Plenty of room to clear everything. Going over the axle might be a issue. There is room for 5". But finding someone with dies to bend 5" will be a problem. You could do it with 45 degree bent sections. Just a lot of welding and fab work.

5" flex will fit around the t-case. You'd have to be a good fabricator/welder to keep it from touching the front drive shaft, t-case and frame. For kicks, I stuck a piece of 5" flex in there and it does fit believe it or not. But you have no play between the frame and case. Might have a big vibration issue as well if things did rub. www.bigexhaust.com for 4" kits and or parts.

I think you need six inch pipe. Thata ways you could send a small child up in there and swab 'er out like a gun barrel.

I'm going to have the chimeny sweep run a brush through my stacks when he's here.

ROFLMAO

:-laf ... ..... :-laf

just run a inner fender well 5" down pipe to the outside of the frame rail and back along the truck. . i got 5" turbo back in mine but i had to cut some stuff. . it sounds nice. .

I'm curious why you'd want to go to the 5" system. The 4" mandrel bent is just perfect for our needs. This is large enough to easily handle the exhaust volume from a heavily modified pump/injectors etc...

I may be wrong here but there is a point of diminishing return here.

The 5" system provides benefit over a 4" system and you get those to go right from the turbo back.

pb...

bigger is better and can you imagine the sound of a 5 inch streight pipe, not to mention how fast the turbo would spool. but you are right to much of a pain in the but for the gain. not to mention it would probly only last a week if that before I crushed the tip in to my fender. so 4" stacks will work.

The reason I'm going 4 instead of 5 inch stacks is because I am pretty sure the 4" cause enough scavenging and it would be odd to ba able to interchange stacks between my big rig and my pickup.

pb- how many hp do you make with out the water/meth?

ps- think I found a KW and I think it has 4" duals anyways. so its still interchangable..... oh well. gonna paint em yellowLOL

I suppose the tractor trailer could have 4" exhaust... . if it does its old or had a old 2 stroke or small mack enginein there. Most modern trucks have 5" exhaust. Heck thats where I get most of my 5" stuff from . . the scrap metal bin at the truck shops.

Believe it or not, 5" actually causes turbos to spool slower. Once you get to a certain point, the larger exhaust decreases torque. As a matter of fact, a lot of guys with twins where the DP is 5" neck it down to 4" for better spoolup.

My twins spool pretty fast with my 5". I've got more than enough torque with 5" anyway. If 4" gives a little more I doubt you would notice much difference vs. 5". Plus the looks you get when someone sees a 5" pipe stuffed under your rig makes it worth it too.

I have kind of a funny story about my 5" on the 01. The week after I put mine one (nobody noticed on there own) a guy from the shop asked me to follow him out to his 1/2 ton car to look at his new "Cat back Duals". It was one 2" pipe into a muffler that split into two 2-1/2" pipes with tips. Sweet  I was pleasant and said "Wow, thats cool". But then as we were walking past my truck, I invited him to look at my trucks exhaust pipe. He asked me where I got such a big Tip? I told him it wasn't a tip at all and had him look underneath. The look on his face was priceless. :-laf

BTW. I have 4" on the 92 just behind the 3" down pipe. Sound awsome. The 93 will get stacks.

Were you able to route the 5" under your truck without having to crush any pipe or go under the transmission crossmembers? The only full 5" I've seen on a first gen hung below the crossmembers.

That's why I think tips are sorta kinda ... . ah... ... . I don't like them. I still have problems with my five inch stacks cuz the entire system in only four. I say if you can't run four or five inch pipe please don't install some tip that is one or two inches bigger. It somehow just ain't right.
