2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 5% fuel savings ALMOST!!!!!

I was almost enticed into getting a Shell Credit Card which offered a 5% discount on fuel - that wouls be great... . except when I looked at the Fine Print - this is what I found:



"You earn rebates of five percent (5%) on purchases of Shell gasoline (excluding diesel and aviation fuel) at Shell locations within the United States ("Shell Purchases"). "



Are there any Cards that offer a discount???????

Last I heard if you use a Discover card you get 2 cents off every gallon. Flying J RV Card 1 cent per gallon if you fill over 20 gallons.

If I remember right, I think Sinclair has a card that gives $0. 13 off. It is a promotional deal, and only lasts for a few months. But if you use many gallons a day it would pay.

I signed up for a credit card (MBNA is the issuer though it carries an auto club logo) that offered the 5% rebate on all gasoline purchases when I paid at the pump - a purchase of gasoline with the card "inside" would not get the rebate. The card also has the diesel and aviation gasoline exclusion.



I have always received the rebate when purchasing #2 diesel from a number of different vendors.



The wording on my credit card agreement that seems to get the rebate is "Eligible... ... transaction at an automated fuel dispenser at a gasoline pump in which the credit card is swiped through a card reader physically attached to that gasoline pump for purposes of authorizing and completing the purchase of the gasoline. The transaction must be assigned the merchant category code of 5542. "



I think the "merchant category code of 5542" is applied to all pay-at-the-pump credit card purchases and all "5542" purchases end up with the discount, no matter what type fuel is dispensed.



I suspect the Shell card will get you the 5% if used at the pump, gasoline or diesel.

I have the Marathon Credit Card. I got 10% rebate on Gas and Diesel for the first 60 days, 5% after. Also 1% rebate on all other purchases.
