im looking at getting a turbo back kit for my 06. but some say go with a 5 ich kit, some 4 inch. any thoughts on this guys? im thinking eather silverline or diamond eye. id like the corsa, but i cant see spending 1000+ on an exhaust, unless i was driving a 911 turbo.

It all depends on what the future holds for your truck if you are going to upgrade turbos and start to get a little crazy then yes go with the 5 inch if not stick with the 4 inch it just depends on what you will do on the future.

You will not see any gains with a 5inch until you are over 500 hp. Like said above it depends on what the future holds for your truck.

Swap mufflers,be happy!

Amen, I can't see any point in spending more than $100-150 to change the sound of your truck. The Geno's muffler delete is like $70, and if that is too loud for you, a good replacement muffler is under $150 installed.

As already mentioned, you have a 4" exhaust and it flows plenty for up to 500+hp.

Do a search on 5" systems too, many of them seem to produce and objectionable drone.

i have had 2 diff 4" exhaust systems an i got rid of both of them. an now i have a 5" turbo back into 4" duals an i love it looks great an smoke pours out both sides:D GO 5"

Unless you're going for the 500+hp mark anytime soon I'd do the muffler replacement for the $150. My kitty vanished and after that I put in the mbrp muffler from dpp and love it. Love the sound and love the price.
I'm never going to need 5 in so why pay so much more money for another 4in system when I already have one, installed already too. Try the muffler, if you don't like it, sell the whole system or muffler to someone else and buy a new one.

Its all about power if you are not looking for every free hp you can get just change the muffler if you are looking to upgrade the turbo later then just put the 4inch kit on if you are happy with the power and are not going to upgrade to bigger and better things then change the muffler

It does have a lot to do with power upgrades down the road. But 5inch looks cooler with the big honkin tip on the end, go with 5 you'll get more looks and compliments.

not sure i would do it again

I started upgrading my truck by getting it to breath better. AFE2 and 5" exhaust. No gains in mileage and perhaps a tiny increase in HP. If I were to do it again, I actually might start with a chip/download and change out the muffler only. Might then change the Air. I don't need all the power that one can squeeze out of this truck. I realized later a 5" really is overkill. 4" is plenty. It has enough power for me in what I do. That said, it sounds pretty mean, but can't go through a drive through as too loud a drone to be heard.

Plan to add a smarty jr and be done with the upgrades unless I start twoing more (them will add an airbrake).

I got passed by a bunch of guys running 5-inch exhaust this weekend... they all sounded bad. Almost duramax/powerstroke bad...

If your going for sound, you had better listen to one before you buy.

Just my opinion...

why kind of systems did they have? 5" doesn't really sound any different than 4", just deeper

3rd gens don't really sound all that great anyhow. using a 2nd gen exhaust manifold helps... as do twins :D

Not sure, just saw a bunch of them on this trip to Washington... everyone of them had that hollow gutless wheezing sound that the powerstrokes and duramaxs have... totally different sound than my 4-inch...

Mine sounds ok with a 4-inch magnaflow 30 incher... still not as "big rig" as the 99 did with a straight 3"...

I'm on the "5 inch exhaust fence", too. I have one on order (5" stainless Silverline), but it's currently backordered until mid July. The price is right as far as stainless 5" turbo back systems go ($630). When I got a call saying it is on backorder, I was ready to cancel the order and just go with what I have (stock 4" with muffler and cat delete). I got to thinking about future mods, though. What if I do decide to upgrade the turbo and go a little crazy with mods later on? The 5" will certainly come in handy. Plus, it's a stainless system versus the stock system which isn't.

I'm leaning towards just keeping the 5" system on order at this point as it certainly can't hurt having a stainless 5" turbo back exhaust.

i just installed a 5 inch diamond eye turbo back..... love it. i even installed a 6 inch tip. sounds nothing like my friends powerjoke, but thats just his. i love the deep sound. it has a little dron, but i dont tow so i dont have a problem with it.
