This week, I hauled a 36ft travel trailer from Sturgeon Bay, WI to Denver, CO (this is what I do for a living).

Its a 1250 mile trip, and about 800 miles into it, the engine light came on, and the engine ran rough at idle and also while accelerating until it hit about 1700 rpm, then it seemed to have full power.

I checked the code and it was P0305 - which is #5 cylinder misfire. It appears the #5 injector hung up.

I dumped in a full gallon of Power Service Diesel Kleen into my tank and topped it off with #2 ULSD, hoping the potent mix of injector cleaner & fuel might free up the stuck injector.

I made it to Denver, delivered the trailer.

I have 140K miles on the truck, it is out of warranty. I was quoted ~$1300. 00 to get just the one injector replaced, by a shop in Denver. Well not having the $$ resources to get it fixed, I chose to continue playing Russian Roulet with the engine and began driving home (not a smart thing to do, I know Oo. , please spare me the lectures).

About 10 miles outside of Denver, the truck "bucked" hard like I hit a major speed bump or pot hole, the engine light went off, and the motor began running smooth as silk.

Appears my "mix" worked, but now, how long before it happens again???

Could any of the sponsors on here please PM me quotes for:

a. ) a single replacement for the stock injector.

b. ) a full set of new injectors.

c. ) a full set of rebuilt injectors.

d. ) a full set of mild performance injectors (i. e. no other upgrades needed).

BTW, my truck info: 2007 RAM 3500 Dually 5. 9CTD

My number 5 went out this week as well. I only have 20,000 miles on my 07 5. 9. Very very common. Mine did not seem as bad as your however. I got a rough idle, white smoke, then more white smoke if it sat for very long. Seems to run great now that it's fixed. I have heard that F1 Injectors are the best and you can have a 50 Horse nozzle added to your injector body.

Yes, there is a Free one on the Hemi Site. Not sure I can E-mail you a copy but I can try to attach it as a file. E-mail me with your E-mail and I will try it. .

How long do you have? Well... . the first time mine did the buck, fart run rough no power thing was two months before it failed entirely. In fact the first time was isolated and was a long time before it started acting up regularly. After a couple of months it became once a week then would clear up. Then almost daily. I removed all the mods fearing that was the cause. Ran fine for two more weeks then failed completely. During the period of time just prior it would fix itself overnight and not go bad until it was run hard. Almost seemed tied to heat.

So you may be able to nurse it. Then again, when mine finally went for good, I kept hoping the truck fairy would come again that night... to no avail:{

Good luck

Aren't rebuilts from Cummins just over $200? I don't think they are that hard to install either.

Someone recommended I check out sponsors that sell F1 Flux injectors, they offer a rebuild service that is WAY cheap (like $125. 00 for a stock rebuild of my injector), and from my research, they have a great rep. I may end up going that route depending on turn around time, I cannot let my truck sit very long, if it's not rolling, it's not making money...

Thanks to all that have offered any advice, it is much appreciated... .

Replacing your injectors is very easy. If you actually got a DTC and it specifically said that your #5 injector is failing then you most likely need a new injector because it if failing electrically. Most common failures are due to nozzles failing or becoming to nasty to function properly. It doesn't matter how much cleaner you dump in your fuel if it is failing electrically, cleaner won't fix it.

Thanks for the info, it makes sense, new injectors coming soon... .

Thanks everybody for the help... .
