Went to Bandimere again last night and had good success. With the exception of one run (14. 68 @ 95. 3 ) they were all within . 15 sec and . 25 mph of each other. Most of the 0-60 ft times were 2. 00 sec. , the 1/8; 9. 1 sec @ 76 and my best 1/4 was the 14. 26 @ 95.

I removed the fifth wheel plate & gooseneck (250 lbs. ), grill guard (60) spare tire (70) and reciever (40). I left the tailgate on and it did'nt seem to matter if it was up or down.

I was pretty darn happy since I watched a supercharged Lightning run 15. 1 a C5 Corvette 14. 3, two 04' Pontiac GTOs 15. 1 and a Kawasaki ZX12R go 11. 2.

Good times. That's movin' pretty good for an old brick of a 4x. Just think if it were 2wd with an automatic! You just reminded me how dreadfully slow my truck is  .

Ok guys, I know very little about the drags. Is an auto AND two wheel drive much slower or faster ???????????????????

One of my tire salesmen who I buy truck tires from said if your tires are spinning your loosing tons of time. He uses these big/fatty/slick tires and lays down a patch of rubber then backs up directly over this and therefore when he takse off his tires bite and has good time. Said the key is to take off over top the WARM rubber on the track and you get one H*** of a bite.

Do you guys do a similar rutein when racing??????

The benefit to 2wd and an auto are these. A 2wd truck is lower and has less wind resistance. A 2wd truck also weighs less. An auto trans will get your engine into the power faster via the torque convertor letting the engine revs climb faster, and there would be much faster shifts from an auto than from a truck 5 speed. You only want to do a John Force NHRA style smokey burn-out if you have sticky tires, not street radials. Hope this sheds some light.

Yep, Thanks a bunch!!

I got the two types of drags mixed and combined there a little. I'd luv to make a run @ my local track. However the notion has entered my head that I'll look stupid and make a fool.

Nutt'n ventured, nutt'n gained I suppose, eh?

I thought the same thing the first time i went to the track about making a fool out of myself but i got alot of satisfaction when the staff at the track started laughing when i pulled into the burnout box, the guy waved me to go straight to staging but my duals had other plans. i guess they didnt expect a dually to burnout but i showed them how we do it in texas. So i lit up the dualls and let them houl. "kids dont try this at home". Expecting a slow time they put me up against a little ricer who couldnt pull a stick out of the ground. when the smoke cleared the e. t. board said 17. 00 and the rice was no where near the 1/4 mile mark. just shows that the old saying "dont judge a book by its cover" came into play. In this case dont judge a hick by his truck. Not quite a 14. -- but you gota start somewhere.

p. s the ricer ran a 20. 31 ha ha ha!

I always try to be conservative when I estimate how fast I will go at the track and I have been pleasantly surprised at how well it runs with such easy to do modifications. I was estatic when I ran a 14. 33 my first run last week. I think now if I had tried a harder launch I might have been able to knock off another tenth or two. I am very happy with my times.

If had anywhere near the power of KTA Cummins or Old Smokey, 12s would be had.

Very nice times. I wish I could be able to shift out of 4x4 on the fly, just can't do it with a NP205. Getting out of 4 wheel was good for like 6 mph. on my friends 2nd gen.

Good times, man. My pickup wouldnt even go that fast without some more RPMs, or another gear. And remember guys, he's about a mile up. But thinner air makes for less resistance while trying to get these old bricks down the track. Be interesting to see what you'd do at sea level, glhs.

Antrim93; From what I've tried, 2wd only nets about 1-2 more mph. But yes I think the second gens do gain more. I never have attempted to shift back into 2wd while going down the track since it will only come out when I'm off the throttle and I'm busy shifting then.

dpuckett; After I stopped at your place on the way through in July, I bought two cars in Roby I have yet to pick up. I will be down in a little while to get them. BTW, the truck tops out around 115 mph. :)

Unless you get a bunch of powered by honda racing stickers and a 5 inch exhaust system on a 1. 5 liter the only way to look stupid is to stall the motor which would actually qualify as some sort of talent in a ctd. I ran my bone stock automatic dodge colt a few times it didn't even make it to sixty mph the only comments I got were people saying they wouldn't want me to bracket race me in it as it was very consistant(ly slow).
