I recently had the lift pump tested at the dealer and was told everything was AOK. I received my Briar Hopper test guage today and this is what I have for pressure:

5 psi -idle

2. 5 psi- cruise

1 psi-WOT

I called the dealer to see about getting this replaced under warranty and he stated that it was good to them and he never heard of ANYONE checking the pressure at the canaster. Per their book it was good and they won't replace it.

At the dealer they hook up something to the gas tank and return line and check for back flow, they don't actually check the pressure... just flow and compare it to some graph.

What are my options other then replacing it myself? Are they cheaper at cummins if I have to go that route? If so, does anyone have the numbers and a $$$.

I appreciate your help on this one.

Yeah, and remind them that specs are no less than 8psi at any reading.

As a back-up I bought PN 3990105 at Cummins NW a few months ago for ~$140. It'll be over twice that much at the dealer.

Cummins NW in PDX 888. 289. 0900 Ask for Lane. He's a TDR member.

KarMArt said they would recheck and this time with a pressure gauge. Now we will wait and see if mu guage is correct, which I'm sure it is.

You guys are great!

Late 99s on are covered by warranty, because Dodge finally figured out that it was cheaper to replace a lift pump than wait until the VP44 grenades. However, earlier 24 valves are usually not covered by warranty. DON'T get the pump from the stealer. For that part and some others, they charge about double the list price at Cummins. Not really dealer's fault, it is Dodge's pricing structure. For example, the dealers pay $9+ for a gasket that Cummins lists for a bit over $3.

Joe, my warranty paperwork says:

Engine Cooling and Fuel:

Electric and Mechanical Fuel Pump;Seals and Gaskets for the listed components

Doesn't fuel pump=lift pump
