hey, what do you expect for spelling [and grammer] from someone who just barely passed english class and doesn't like to use the spell check... :-laf

FWIW, I heard a 03 stock system at the Fall Brawl, being cranked up on the dyno. The guy only had a straight pipe replacing the muffler, no more, no less, no other mods. Sounded pretty much like nothing was done to it, until they wound it up, then it sounded pretty cool. Not stock.

Re: 5 Inch and WHY?

Catcracker,

That's exactly what we have been telling folks since the 5 inch systems first came on the market. In the last TDR magazine there was even an article explaining that until you are over 500 RWHP a five inch is going to hurt your performance especially at the low end, rpm areas.

Dyno Challenge:

Bring me a 4" and I'll put it on in place of my 5". If there is significant performance advantage according to Brent's dyno, then I'll buy the 4". If not, I get it for no charge--could put it on Mom's truck. :D

Glad to here you like the sound of your stack on your truck. I have stacks on my 03 too. I have a 4inch down pipe to a 4inch intermediate that runs to a 4to5inch adapter that runs to my twin stacks. I have no muffler and no drone. Here ia a link to some pictures www.supersportsman.com/rhino.htm

5 inch systems are not for everyone. If you like your truck quiet, then keep it stock. The 5 inch will produce more sound than most care for. But there are ways to tone it down, to a level that can be acceptable. Plus, the 5 inch gives a very distinctive exhaust note, that is very appealing.

True, muffler selections, and placement are crucial to enjoying it for a long time. I have found that a second muffler/resonator goes a long way in getting it to sound just right.

Now I hear the turbo much more than the exhaust.

Seems like the conventional wisdom is you need to be north of 500 hp before you will see any benifit from the 5" exhaust. I went with a muff/res setup and it suits me just fine. As measured with an spl meter the truck is quieter at idle and at cruise but has a real bark when your honkin on it. IMO the best of both worlds. Of course I am definetly in the old fart camp and having learned that noise doesnt mean anything other than noise, I can do without it.

got the ez on now all power loss is gone and it doesnt honk that bad anymore b/c i can go through the gears alot faster. i am going to stick with the 5 inch i am trying another muffler and and 5" resonator i think this is going to give me the sound i want. and for you info the reason i went with 5" is b/c i am going to have 500 ponies when it is all said and done. kwick kurt southbend don m shower heads i am going to need this 5" setup. ;)

No need to take offense. If you like it then its right for you. Im refering to the folks that equate noise with power. At work my engines are straight piped, 24" straight pipe. Been hearing it all my adult life. I just dont need it in my truck. Hopefully Kurt will get something going on the goodies to mount the turbo, my kwikspool is pretty custom. Another way to describe it would be PIA to install. Zero lag though. Wouldnt be enough for you at that level, mine is at 60 psi on the drive pressure.
