My truck has annoying gearshift knob rattle that sounds like loose change rattling together. It occurs in all gears but is most frequent in 5th over 2000rpm. Does not happen all the time and does it when the truck is warmed up and cold. Any help would be appreciated before I do something that I'll regret. .

Joe,

I'll bet the locknut has loosened up. This is the noise you hear.

Try this, With a small screwdriver, gently pry out the plastic gear shift diagram. It may come out tough. Under that is a hex nut. Loosen it with a 14mm deep socket. Then make sure the shifter knob is screwed on as far as it will go. Then tighten the 14mm locknut.

In order to keep from maring the shift knob, heat it up with a hair dryer to make it softer. Then the patern plug will come out easy.

Joe,

I had the same problem after I changed out my last clutch. The nut in the shifter knob backed off. I just took the nut clear out of the knob and used the threads to hold the knob on. You'll see what I mean when you look at it. Works great.
