I have a gear grinding noise that started last night after a 3 mi.

drive home from work. I stoped at a friends and let it idle for 15

to 20 min. Then turning up my street slowly shifted into 2nd

went 50 yrds. Then into my drive slow, put it in 1st to idle in

garage, had a sound like one of those rice rockets, stopped put

clutch in and whine slowly went away, hit reverse same noise,

back and forth this way a few times. Seemed to go away when clutch was released and in netural. I have had the transfer shifter

lightly bunged because of the rattle for some time. took the bunge off. Went out this morning for work and drove to work the normal routine, no noise at all. Not bomed, no heavey towing,

no hot rodding. 97 slt cc stock HP. 104K.

could use some input. first time on forum.

Drove home form work last night no noise at all pulled in driveway

left it in 2nd gear luged a bit then the gear grinding noise. No noise on the way to work???? Noise goes away slow with clutch in and in gear, goes away fast in nuetral clutch disengaged.

Gary.

First thing I think I would look at is the needle bearing in the transmission. That one is in the front of the transmission and is the shaft under the input shaft. That is if it stops when the clutch is engaved.
