No 5 speed Auto, only the 4 speed (48re) is available unless you go with the 6 Speed manual (Cast Iron NV5600 for only a short time more) then it's an aluminum case Getrag 6 Speed. Hope this helps

So far the only diesels really needing the 5 speed auto are ones with poor low end torque. The Ford torqueshift splits 1st and 2nd. We don't have that problem.

well, you may feel this way until you actually drive a Allison equipped trans behind a diesel, then you will want that extra gear. The Allison has a much lower 1st and a higher 5th. . why would you not want the bigger gear spread?

dodge, wake up, get a 5 speed auto soon.

allison series 1000 behind hopped up cummins = lots of expensive broken parts :{

why do you say that? I have an Allison in my dmax. 800 ft lbs to the rear axle, runs like a champ. Buddy over on the diesel place (Trippin) makes over 1,100 ft lbs to the rear wheels with his EXTREME TTS box. . Over 100 dyno pulls, numerous drag runs, Allison running strong.

So how do you back up your baseless claim the Allison is weak?

the highest failure rate of the big three.

gm wont put more than 590 #ft through them.

the reason that tst box comes w/torque setting is 'cause the transmission cant hold power below 1900rpms. that was a quote from mark chapple.

some guys have made 500hp/1000#ft w/the dm/at and they have put 5k in the trans then complain that it's not holding.

also the 47re has many trucks at 1200#ft some at 1500#ft and lots of reliable miles on them. .

thats why :)

I doubt 1200-1500ft lbs through a stock 47re, no let me change that... no way 1500 ft lbs though a stock 47re. highest failure rate says who? Dodge of Ford might say that. Superior design hands down to the 48re, ask anyone in the trans business that knows what they are talking about. Tell me who put 5k in their Allison and is complaining? I'd like to talk to them. Far as I am concerned, your post is mostly comprised of hersy.

I didn't say they were stock! Is your buddy running a stock trans??

is yours stock ? do you tow anything?

are your # real? I ask 'cause there is a d-max around here that said he was 500+ hp and when he pulled next to me at a stop light..... the next time I talked to him he had lots of excuses! he was :{ and I was :-laf

I am not trying rip on the allison if left stock they are good but they are expensive from the get go and they are expensive to bomb and they wont last if you turn up the power and leave them stock!

You are correct, anything much over a 90 hp box will hurt the c2's and c3's clutchs ( I hurt the steels in mine but didn't care, as I knew it would hurt it and was planning on upgrading it anyway). Trippin makes an honest to god 1100 ft lbs on a Mustang dyno. I have about $3000 in my Allison to handle my torque which consisted of a suncoast converter, transgo kit, and a few assorted upgraded clutch packs. doing the same to the 48re. who is better, dtt, ats or suncoast for the TC. All in all, I like the Allison for the tow haul braking feature, as well as the extra gear and bigger gear spread.

I have been hearing for a while that the Allison has had the most failures from the big three. Somewhere that as also been brought up in surveys. The FEW folkes I know that drive them have ALL had them gone into for one reason or another. It seems like the 48re is doing its job pretty well. I have really NEVER heard that the Dodges needed a LOWER 1st gear and too tall of a gear takes the Cummins out of the SWEET spot for towing. The V8s MUST need that lower gear to get a load moving? :-{}

Check your jd powers and ect. surveys. They rate them on claims per 100 units built(c's pre 100). Ford was the best with dodge a very close second, I hate to say it but GM has(I should say had,I have not seen one in about 2 model years) almost twice the claims.

I have to agree with hasselbach I just bought a new GMC D-MAX allison and it shifts and drives awesome. The grade braking is cool too.

My buddy must work with the same guy :D Yeah, he bought this and that and says he is over 500HP (they must add up the HP number claims from the parts they are throwing on). Everybody knows an exhaust is good fro at least 40HP right. Whatever :rolleyes:
