Josh nailed it on the head there with the critters. I hit at least 1 a month on the road I live on. There is usually about 50-100 grazing in the 30 acre field right next to me every night at dusk.

Now after today i can add 3 u-joints to my repair schedule for the last 6 monthes. Been looking at new Cheby's on the internet for the last 3 hours.

You must want some serious repair bills if you buy that Chevy! :-laf

Common Chris, I know how you drive, and you can't expect ANYTHING to last like that!

Heck I'm the same way!

Josh

Well I raised enough stink with the guys who sold me the reman transmission in August and this time they sent me a brand new transmission. A complete new case and new top cover. I swear I will push this truck over a cliff if I have to drop the transmission once more in the next six monthes!

Well it's time for that cliff because I installed the transmission less than 500 miles ago and it's a POS! I get a constant driveline vibration from it that puts my hands to sleep and howls really bad, and grinds like bad synchros in 3rd 4th and 5th gears right from the test drive on it. I was hoping it would go away but it's evident these idiots can't get anything right! The company is out of Zumbrota,MN. They told me that I'm running too many horse through it and I should pay for the next transmission. I explained the only performance I run through it is 275 injectors and a Hypertech timing box and that I know many (like prolly 10,000 TDR members) who run WAY more horse through theirs and don't have to drop their transmission and replace it THREE times in 4 monthes. I told him if the next one gave me any grief before the warranty runs out I will be in court with him to make him pay me the 350 bucks profit I loose each day I'm broke down as well as my labor bill to R&R the damn things for each time since I bought my transmission from him! He just simply doesn't want to stand behind his product. The best part is that he couldn't sell me the transmission since I'm not a Dodge dealer or shop so I bought it from him through my dealer and they are standing behind me and I'm sure he doesn't want to loose their business. He is by no means a Dave Goerand! Dave will be getting my next transmission job when warranty runs out! Here I come Automatic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do it! you wont' be dissappointed!

Sorry to hear about all this Chris! I'd definatly be getting in touch with a lawyer. Being the 4th transmission, I'd have all the paperwork and writers cramp already! At least the dealer is standing behind you!

And you really think it will hold up better than a manual?? I couldn't even get an auto to hold behind my stock 215HP CTD that was long term reliable.

I just think you are having bad luck (sorry for your luck). Not that my dad tows that often, but he has almost 230k on his transmission and has only replaced the 5th gear nut and the clutch... it still runs like a champ.

Personally, I'll never own an auto behind a CTD again... been there, done that!!

That really depends on the builder. If your relying on good ole DC, you'll be waiting a while. The Goerends he mentioned, would hold.

Josh

Hey Csnyder,

could you have swapped a 5600 for the time and $$$ you've had tryin to mess with this transmission?

Are you still a fan of the LUK clutches?

Yeah I could have prolly swapped in a 5600 for about the same after all my headaches but they also have their issues as well as do autos. However I know a few people running 700 plus horse through an auto do racing and sled pulling and they have no major issues with the Goerands auto transmission. It helps that I only live about 30 minutes from Goerands also... I don't realize how lucky I am I guess and I KNOW Dave down there has awesome customer service. I would say I'm still a LUK fan also because I haven't had clutch issues even though the transmission shop tells me I have too much power for my 5 speed... I would tend to believe the 300 HP clutch kit would give before the transmission if the shop rebuilt them right.
