Just curious who has reached the 1/2 million mile mark with their Dodge/Cummins. What year is your truck, your mileage to date, type of use and have you had to do any major repairs?

Thanks!

I am well past 500k with my 'old blue' 93. Repairs to date are numerous but nothing that was a killer. Water pump at about 350k. One fan clutch, four times reshiming the getrag, ORIGINAL CLUTCH, one differential overhaul, lots of ujoints, couple of brake jobs front and rear, rotors on the front, wheel bearings all around, two light switches (need one now), head lamps, pot joint on the steering, booster and master cylinder, heater core (what a bi-tch that was), brushes in the alternator, ORIGINAL STARTER, nothing on the turbo and nothing in the engine. Different seats, hood latch cable and e brake cable and needs a headliner and windshield.

Cranks instantly and I would drive it anywhere.

Total accumulated miles for me behind a Cummins is over a million.

James

Edit: Oh I forgot to answer what type use. Mostly highway, long trips delivering equipment that we build.

Man,, Thats allot of miles. My 93 is only about to hit 200K and the bodies about to fall off. Although I got this truck off a farm. Beat all to H***! But she runs great.

well, i rolled into ft worth sat eve, about 6:30, pulling a 36 ft flat bed gooseneck, 17 big round bales of hay, and my stock 93 with an automatic transmission, and she turned 200,000 ... felt good because every day after school for the past month and weekends included ,she has been pulling 17 round bales weighing about 1600 avg... . and do i ever get the looks from all the 3rd gen boys hauling 12-15 round bales, up and down i35... heh heh heh!!... . may not last forever, but its been quite party!!!! monte

Mine gets very warm just driving it empty

Then don't drive around with the transmission empty... put some of that dextron stuff in there... it might just cool it down. :-laf

man, that's funny right there :D

knock on wood, i change the super cooler and transmission fluid every 20,000... other than that, brakes, 1 injector pump and thats it. . i bought it from an old gentlemen that was very picky, he pulled his travel trailer about 80 miles to the coast and that was it... i bought her used 75000 miles on her in 2000... . other than that, just drive her..... no gauges other than stock. i did clean out the radiator, and put in a new temp gauge the other day... ... monte

I don't see how any 1st gen odometers can last that long:-laf.

They dont. Ever think why most 1st Gens have mileage in the 200-300K range? You think they ALL got driven only 20k per year? No, they get replaced a time or two  ;)

I got a good laugh out of my girlfriend when I showed her a picture in the TDR magazine of a truck that had 670K or something like that on it, and she was like "How do they know that?" I told her they look at the odometer. "they go up that high? I thought they quit at like 300k. " No, most other trucks do, though.

I thought I was doing well with my nearly 400K (actual) 91 truck.

(I'm feeling a bit board........Changing gear oil isn't any fun)

You guys are all fibbers.

EVERYONE knows that only the POWERSTROKE Six-Ohno will go 400-500 Thousand miles.

i agree, the school truck is a 350 powerstroke, replaced the engine at 35000 ,dropped the 8th cylinder, and for the last 50k its been iffy at best... you never know if your going to make it home... dont think you could convince me to buy one... and need a chiropractor when you get out of one after a 500 mile trip(if you make it that far)... suspension is terrible... monte

my '91. 5 had 429xxx showing when i bought it 2 years ago. speedo and odo were dead then. now i have a mechanial guage that shows only 96,xxx but i asume it to be somewhere over a half a million miles.

not bad for the rust belt.

Gee, let's go back to school- 429 + 96 = 525. SO, yes, I'd say you ARE over half a million. By the lifespan of a PowerStroke, I'd say.

Sorry, I couldnt resist. ;)
