I have a CPL 804 and I want to put it in my waterski-raceboat.

I have read the treads about the 500 and even 600 + HP's.

Can the VE can stand the higher load in a marine environment?

Can it rev to 4000 RPM?

Who can I send my pump to, to do the mods?

Which injectors? I think my head has 7mm holes already.

We have build a water to air intercooler and fuel cooler. We are still thinking on using a warm or cold exhaust.

Also I have a cracked 53 24V from ebay. Could I use the first gen block and swap everything?

Thanks

For reference, the highest rated Cummins 6BTA for marine application is 370 hp. That's a P pumped engine.

That said, it's not the VE that will necessarily limit the hp it will be the marine duty cycle.

To handle that, the marine engines have different pistons, and valve rotators among other changes I'm sure to handle the duty cycle.

A marine engine is always under load... it's like a truck pulling a max load up a mountain... all the time.

So EGT will be your main battle to overcome. Scuffed cyl walls are a common occurance in overloaded marine engines.

That said, PODs will probably give you the best shot at getting high hp. I would also recommend a pretty good sized turbocharger and a large exhaust housing to help keep EGT down... I believe lag will not be an issue in a marine application.

Make sure the engine room has plenty of ventilation. You will need close to 1500 sq cm of vent area to support thatkind of power.

If your exhaust is wet it will need to be 6 inch.

Sounds like a fun project.

ps... if you are not aware there is a great marine site that has good Cummins threads... www.boatdiesel.com check it out

My Dad has a '78 (twin engine) Marrinet. How much ventalation will I (He) need to clear the air for twin Cummins 5. 9's with two turbo's each, say 440 hp apiece?
