.500 S&W cannon

I shot it for the first time today. I won't be using my right hand for a while, that thing is punishing! 400 grain soft points out of a 8 3/8 in. barrel @ 1675fps. I was shooting 30 pound steel plates out to 100 yards and it was knocking them off the beams 10 feet.



Anyway, I think next time I won't be shooting 75 rounds off at one time, It was a little bit too much!

It looks like we have some of the same interests by the last few posts we have had. A few questions for you on the . 500. I've read the reports on the unit and have been impressed by the numbers on paper. Was the difference as notable from a . 44 as they seem on paper? Do you feel that it is worth the price that S&W is asking? I haven't had the opportunity to get my hands on one yet, but can't wait until I can. Thanks!

jgillot, I shoot alot of big handguns and I've also broken alot



of big handguns. I've already noticed the cylinder falling back



on the fired case, in other words, the recoil is severe enough



to have to double cock the gun. As far as power it's like two



. 44 magnums , it even makes the . 454 casul seem tame. When



you pull the trigger there's not much muzzle flip thanks to the



compensator but this thing comes straight back at you HARD



I compare it to a led pipe slapping you across the palm, it got to



the point that after the first cylinder I wore my shooting glove



the gun was accurate. At $47 for 12 rounds I'll be reloading for



sure!

How much more recoil than the 50ae dose it have?

HEMI Dart, I shoot at Bluetrail range in Wallingford. Its got 100 yard, 200 meter and a silhouette range. Its not much but its the only thing close by.





rbeatty, I never got the chance to shoot a . 50AE. For a reference it shoots the same 325grain bullet as the . 50AE 2000fps. or about 700fps faster. Its a handful.
