Just a neighborhood heads-up on a hornady recall on 500 S&W ammo, 300gr FTX Custom pistol ammo, item number 9249, shipped from 9-9-2010 to 10-17-2011. Lot numbers 3101327, 3110256, 3110683, 3110695, 3110945, 3111388, and 3111885. Some cartridges from affected lots may exhibit excessive chamber pressures, resulting in possible firearm damage and or personal injury.

I no gotty any, but thought someone else might, so please don't blow yourself up.

Yeah, I bet that's all the lot numbers they made... I don't think they make it but every 6months, anyway... . Hey, don't get me started on their AWOL quality control guys!!! I've got several hundred of thier pis-poor bullets I'm stuck with that won't shoot!!!

HH, I bought some 6. 5 Creedmoor Brass a few years back. 70 out of 100 pieces had flaws. Serious enough that burn through would have been a given, on the first shot. I called Hornady and after some discussion, they replaced them with 100 pieces of new brass. I wonder, if you called their tech support, if they wouldnt provide you with some satisfaction? Or attempt to do so?

GregH

I called 'em GHarm... . they asked me how they shot, and I told them, "Like crap!!" They asked me to explain that... . "Ok, at 600 yards, this lot number ***? (I had the lot number off the old boxes) is shooting consistently under 3", or . 5 MOA... . this lot number is shooting 6-8 inches, or 1 MOA, at 600... They're not shooting for crap!" Then I got a lot of questions about my loads, my rifle, primers, etc..... the only thing I had changed was the overall length, due to a different ogive engagement, and I had changed that several times, trying to get them too shoot. I could pull out 5 rounds of the old lot number, and they'd shoot fine, so I know it wasn't me.....

Anyway, they said they'd call me back, but never did. Guess I wasn't rude enough. But that's fine, I can use other bullets..... :D Need some 6. 5mm 140gr Amax bullets? They don't shoot for crap... .

HH, Probably not on the Amax's:-laf!

I just bought the brass to get some dimensions and compare them with the 6. 5 X47 Lapua's. I was thinking about necking down one or other to . 25 for a small capacity mid range varmint rifle with a fairly long barrel life. I have a barrel, receiver and stock blank. GregH

Aren't those close to the same powder capacity? I haven't had a Creedmore in my hands... . I know it was developed for use in across-the-course... .

HH, The Creedmore case is similar to a necked up version of the . 250 Ackley.

The Lapua case is shorter. I just dont care for the soft Hornady brass. Greg

Yeah, I've not had much luck with the Hornady stuff, period. Just when I get a liking to something, they change it. Like the 750gr Amax's... . they just about couldn't sell any a few years ago, after changing the jacket and ogive... . they wouldn't shoot for crap after that, so their sales fell to 30% of what they were before... It was so bad they went back to the old design!! I even quit 'em. I don't like their dies, their brass, and now, their bullets... . Barnes... they're what's getting dinner.
