I have been lax in changing my oil, checked it today, and it is still clear, an d honey colored ? Is this normal ? My 94 Ford IDI turned the oil blach in 500 miles !

Also I noticed that my oil pressure gauge goes way low at idle, never used to do that... Should I be worried ?

What kind of oil do you use?

I use Dello 400 and change it every 7500mi. It gets much blacker than my '01. 5 did for some reason. As far as the oil pressure gauge goes, any deviation should be cause for some concern, but keep in mind that the factory gauge is just a glorified idiot light and doesn't really indicate oil pressure. If it were my truck, I'd have the oil pressure and oil pressure sending unit (switch in this case) checked.

Cheers,

Dave

The dealer has changed the oil since new, I have no idea what they use. I have an appointment for Monday... I will have them check the oil pressure and sending unit...

Thnx...

On my 305/555 in my '03, even at 15,000mi the oil is clear enough to read the dipstick through the oil. I use Delo 400. Add a fuel box and it gets black much much faster.

I can work mine hard and at 6000 mi is just starting to change color. I've always used Rotella. My '01 DC was black at 5000. These new engines are great... ... ... JIM

How low is low for your oil pressure? It should run between 40-60 psi when driving (a tad higher when you first start it in the morning) and at idle once the truck is warmed up all the way you should see between 5-15 psi (usually around 10-12. )

Wild4stangs, this is a classic case of letting your paranoia get the best of you. The 03-04 engines are extremely clean burning, and will not soot the oil for many thousands of miles. The 04. 5's and up are much dirtier creatures, and black the oil right away. Nothing is wrong with your truck. It certainly surprised me too though at first, being that my benz turns the oil black in about 50 miles, and the TDI I had did as well. .

Now albeit I have an 02... my oil pressures are WAY higher than this. I see 85-90 psi when cold... cruise between 65-70 when warm on the highway. and Idle around 35 psi. This is with a mechanical gauge hooked up. Like stated above the supplied oil pressure gauge is an idiot light. I run Rotella 15-40 oil. I see a bit lower when running synthetic.

Hey guys, Well since I don't have a real guage, I can nort give actual pressure numbers. I just noticed the factory guage dropping to the low side or normal, and I can't remember it ever doint that... Sounds like I should install a real guage. Are there any kits available for this ?

the oil in my 05 610 turns black within the first 50 mi. and the oil psi speck for the 610 is no less than 5psi at idle and no less than 30 psi ai 1200 rpm
