2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 50k miles and I am suprised!

My truck rolled over 50k miles last week already!! Thats not the suprising part as I drive this thing alot. What really suprised me is the stock Michelin LTX M/S tires are in really good condition with alot of tread left on them. Only problem with them is some scuff marks on the top of the tread (probably due to a few powerbrakes! ) Seconldy, I had my tires rotated last weekend, I do this religiously every 6k miles and had the front brake pads looked at too. They are in great shop with a ton of pad left on them. I guess I fiquired with all of the weight of the CTD brakes would be gone by now and I have only 1 other time got more than 50k miles out of a set of tires and they were Chapparals, my favorite tire (which they dont make anymore ) I fiquire if I can control the number of burnouts on these tires theres at least another 30k miles left it them before I should think about replacing them. This truck rocks!!

I am in exactly the same situation as you, except my truck/tires are just over 76K miles Darn Michelins ain't ever gonna wear out. But that's ok, I like them, and still don't know what I'm going to replace them with. I'm too picky and just can't find anything I really like.



When my brakes finally need it, I would love to do a complete EGR full upgrade, but that is $$$.

Guys, I'm glad you have good tire wear to report. A good friend of mine is the original owner of a "99 Quad Cab Long bed 4WD and his tires are gone at 45K and the brakes only lasted maybe 40K on the front. His truck is bone stock and has never spun a tire. Stock Michelins too!

I think I got around 69,000 out of the stock tires. They still had 25% left when I got rid of them. They were just too slick in the rain. I don't think they wore down at all the last 10,000 or so, they just got slicker. Kind of hated to change them out.

I thought mine would go to 50K, but now I'm at 56K and they are going strong. They wear to a point that they have about a quarter left, but after that they are like iron. Traction is still terrible on wet roads and snow.

My oem Michelins made it to 85k and still have a few miles left, but winter was coming so I changed them. Still have orig. brakes. Had them checked at 95k and mechanic said I should get to 140k before needing to replace them. Exhaust brake and conservative driving really makes a difference.

Hey, I never said what "control" meant. I am going to "control" myself to keep them under 30 seconds a piece, less than 10 a week. Think the tires will last then?

I hear you about slick when they are wet! Up elk hunting this year we ran into some wet snow, total accumulation was probably a foot. With any other tire I would have never thought about chainin up but I will say these Michelins are pretty much worthless when they get wet. mgoncalves I am sure has a story he'll hold against me for life to attest to that

Wyosteve, do you know a guy down in Loveland named Erin (yes, spelled that way) with an '01 Dodge? He's told me about a fellow from Cheyenne that got 85k on his stock tires, could this be you?

I've had my truck 2 1/2 years and I've gone thru 2 sets of brakes and wore out the tires that were on when I bought it plus another used pair of Michelns and am now on 4 new BFGs.

I have 56000 on mine and they look like they will last at least aother 25000. I don't like any tire on the truck to have a tread wear indicator showing.



I know what I will replace these michelin LTX's with... Another set!

I have 50,000 on mine and brakes are still doing fine. I am sure that I will replace them with the same tire. I have the 10ply tires and they could probably for another 20,000, but will replace them just to be safe in the rain.

Nah, you'll forget by then for 2 reasons. My truck will have pulled yours over every mountain available and the diesel fumes will have killed 90% of both of our brain cells by then so all we will remember to do by the time we are 65 is drink beer and bomb CTD's!!

I may have got'n 69,000 on the tires, but the front brakes went at 49,000. At 97,000 now and the original rear brakes are still at 50%

OK, there is always the exception. I'm with rubberneck on this one. I have 26k on my truck and still have the oem Michelins but I know that they won't go much passed 30k.



I am not hard on equip and I don't do burn outs. Maybe I drive alittle fast well, alot fast, but that shouldn't account for that kind of difference.

I have had 3 sets of rubber in 48,500 miles Big $$ on a 3500 let me be the first to say that one! (Issues ) However I think my OEM Michelins set that we swapped on SSeifert's truck lasted 80,000 and he plays hard on them.

He was alluding to the problems with various parts of the new Ford Powerstroke and Chebby Dukiemaxes that such a post would likely indicate the truck and/or engine was dead at only 50K miles, not the tires.
