I have emailed a local CBS station here in Phoenix about 53 block problems. The thought is that if I could get media coverage like Chryslers latest ball joint problem something may be done with this problem. This channel reported the ball joint problem over 1 year ago and Chrysler is finally going to repair those vehicles. If you would like to voice your opinions and help this station to investigate the problem and maybe get the ball rolling this is their email.

Big difference between a ball joint and an engine block... Ones a safety issue the other isnt. The 53 is a well known problem, getting more exposure will do what? Cummins has been volenatrily helping some owners by paying 1/2 the bill, but that isnt soemthing they are obligated to do. If it lasts past the 100K warranty we are really on our own. Dont forget Chrysler buys these engines with no warranty to save money on them.

These engines are touted to last a minimum of 350K. Mine lasted 53k. Why should anyone have to pay for a manufacturers known defect. I am not condemning Cummins although they are in the loop but Chrysler is the main target. Cummins by last word does not pay half any more but will contribute 1k towards a shop charge of 7 to 8k. Try to trade in a vehicle with antifreeze dripping on the ground and see what kind of deal you get. Many have mentioned a class action lawsuit and I do not know the success that would have. If this gets more exposure the unsuspecting used vehicle buyer just may look for the 53 number before laying down cash on something the general public knows nothing about.
