If you have a 24 valve engine, look at the top right side of the timing gear housing (front of the engine, below the upper radiator hose, on the right side, in-line hight wise with the VP44). There is a little black plate with the engine serial number stamped onto it. It will also have other important engine information on it, such as compression, and horse power rating. It should have a number on it similar to 56789879. The first two numbers (either 53, 55, 56) will be the block serial number.

How do I know if I have a 53 block? The threads I've been reading make me nervous. :{

Hey Wing

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo there's an 05 in the family.

Mac

what year is your truck? any mods? get that signaure filled out! :D

I just made sure tonight and yep im runnin a 55 whew! but that was after smaking my forehead on the plow bracket and drawing a little blood so I was happy!

there is ALOT of 53 block reading to do! pretty much what I have come up with is that if you do have the 53 youre either going to be :D or :( and that it can happen to anyone but not everyone.

just check the block to see what it is and keep an eye on your baby!

Ian

edit* I highlighted the number with a paint pen
