What years were the 53 blocks found/produced???



Did a search, but didn't get a clear answer.

53s started early in the '98 model year with the 12-valve engines since Cummins used 24v blocks for the 12v. I'm not sure when it fazed out, about the middle of the '01 model year (which ran from Jan 2000 to Jul 2001). 53 blocks were made by more than one foundry, it was one of those Mexican (Tupy) foundries that missed the strength webbing in the water jacket area.

'99 is the worst model year for the 53 blocks I think, never have heard of a 12-valve 53 block crack.

Have heard from one of the top boys in the NW that there were 53 blocks well before 98 But I also haven't heard of 12 valves having issues with them (knock on wood)
