Hey couldnt find much info on this. I'll ive learned is that this block isnt seen past 2000 in the trucks. Is that true? How do you ID the block? I dont want to get stuck with one of these so give me some advice before i buy
I have a very early '01 (built 6/00) with a 53 block. I've convinced myself just to enjoy this truck and not worry about it. If you are concerned about it, it's worth a look on the front driver's side of the block just to make sure on any year truck from that period.
well i must be confused here, i looked all over for the block # but all i could find was a refrence number and a engine number... im guessing neither of these are the correct one are they? i have always been going by the ref number.
Looking in the wrong place... . Get on your creeper and enter in front of the driver's wheel - slide under and get a flashlight and look at the engine block behind the VP44. The numbers are at least 2" high and very easy to see ONCE you spot it. It is immediately above the oil pan..... BTW - I was told by Cummins that if a crack develops it is usually on the passenger side in the back and only allows water to seep OUT not into the engine. One can also repain the block with an outside patch - I've been told.
