Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 53 Blocks: Another Question

I've read some of the threads about the dreaded 53 block and took a look at my own 01. 5 ETH and found.....

A 21HOA2

4 BC 12

The block was dirty and the characters a little difficult to decipher so they might be a little off. So if anyone can help with the translation it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Most likely you do NOT have the 53 block. The 53 is stamped in the front of the engine on the drivers side just above the oil pan. The 5 and 3 are over an inch tall. If you have lots of numbers in that same location, you are just fine. No translation is needed regardless. The 53 is either there or not. Most likely, you have a 56 block which is much thicker.

I have a 56 number at the exact same place on the block where the 53 number was on the cracked block.

As far as I know 99-01. You are probably safe in 02.
