I've seen the #53 on the drivers side below the injection pump, this was on a friends 2001. 5 and the block had not cracked by the time he sold it for a new 2003.

On the Driver's Side, elsewhere on the block

On the Passenger's Side of the Block

There was NO #53 cast into the block AT ALL
