2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 53 Blocks?

I am just starting to look to upgrade my 93 to a 98. 5-01 truck. I have heard about the blocks with begining with 53, but do not know what the situation is, or how serious to stay away from them.

I have a 98. 5 with a 53 block , presently has 372000 kms. so far no crack. however its stock execpt for a 4in. exhaust and a k&n filter. no gurantee that it will not crack as many have. I would not personally install a 53 block . look for a 56 or higher number. hope this helps.
