Maybe you guys can help with documentation as I do not want another large bill. Still paying the 53 bill.

Story goes like this.

53 cracked, Phoenix Cummins replaces with 56. Reinstalls engine. Fault codes appear. Mechanic forgot to install tone wheel. Pull engine, install wheel reinstall. Labor alone $5,272. 50. I am liable for $2700. 00 on a truck with 53K 5 years 2 months. Billing date on invoice 20 Nov. 2004.

I was told warranty is 3 months labor, 6 months parts (appears they do not trust mechanics). The back of the receipt only a lawyer could decipher. It is getting close to the warranty and I do not need to get burned again. Pulled the sensor this morning and it appears the tone wheel has struck it at least once. I took the truck to Phoenix Cummins believing I wanted a real diesel mechanic working on my truck. That appeared to be another mistake as Phoenix Cummins really botched this whole thing.

I sent Cummins Corporate this email

02/05/2005

I have a 99 Dodge Ram 2500 that had a 53 block. Cummins Phoenix Replaced cracked block with a recon 56 20 Nov. 2004. I have been experiencing a CPS 336 code. I am installing a new sensor and upon removal of the existing it appears the tone wheel has struck the sensor. I called Cummins Phoenix and spoke to a person named Brian in the service dept. and explained the situation. I told him I would like this documented because the damage to the sensor appears that there could be a problem with the crankshaft end play or tone wheel. I also explained to Brian I was installing a new sensor. Brians reply to this was "ok, not a problem". He took no information from me. I need to find out how to have this documented and get a copy of documentation as the 90 day warranty is approaching and I do not want to have another high dollar bill as in the cracked block change. End of email except engine #'s etc.

Can anyone else tell me what else I can do to document this problem?. I also sent Cummins the ESN#,receipt number and all dates.

Put Cummins on notice with a CERTIFIED letter

I think I would back the email up with a letter sent certified (signature required) explaining everything that has gone on. Not sure who at Cummins I would send it to, but I'm sure you have a few contact names. I also have a 53 & hope I'm one of the lucky ones..... My nickname should be BLACK-CLOUD, but in this case I hope it's "LUCKY"... .

Good luck David! I've been following your problems & I can only hope that their coming to a quick end.

Thanks Clay. I hope your 53 holds up also. I know a few people I would like to go through this grief, but no one here :) . I will see about the letter.
