Just went to my local Cummins shop (Houston) to get a thermostat and six gallons of Compleat. $111. 29 w/tax! Is there a reason that a thermostat for our trucks is $55. 34 (part no. 3946849) or was I taken for a ride?

WOW. Talk about sticker shock.

I think AutoZone had it for about 10 bucks. I still bought the genuine article. You guys have brainwashed me well!

I hope there is a big difference.

Cheers

I hope there is gold in that thermostat. I bought one years back from Geno's (I think 15. 00) in a Cummins box. Haven't needed to install it yet and I do not know if Geno's even carries it anymore. At that price I would definitely give them a call and find out.

Grady, I got my last one from Cummins West in Sacramento, CA last summer, paid about $19 as I recall. I don't know the part number off hand, but the price you state sounds more like a Dodge dealer's price instead of from Cummins directly... I also use the Fleetguard Compleat coolant, I think I pay ~$8/gallon for it at Cummins West.

Tom

I think I paid approx. $20 for mine from Cummins. D/C wanted approx. $25

I think those were the #'s, that was a long time ago.

I don't know what's going on, but I just bought a thermostat for a 2000 and it was $59 right from cummins.

I didn't even get a kiss afterwards, what's up with that?

Cummins Southern Plains, Ltd.

3946849 Thermostat $55. 34

CC2825 Compleat ES 50/50 6@ $7. 91 $47. 46

Local tax $1. 03

MTA tax $1. 03

State tax $6. 43

Total $111. 29

Straight off the receipt.

I think it's time to start surfing for a better deal. Too bad. It was easy to just stop by when in town.

Thermostat

Bought my first one from D/C in Taos New mexico, $43. 00 plus some change, next two came from Genos, $16. 00 each, all were in box from Cummins with same numbers, don't know if Geno's still sells them. The way they last, they should come in six pack. Gradylaw, now who is gonna pay the salaries of all those cute gals sitting around eating donuts at the dealers if not me and you? bg

They DID have donuts! But cute? Maybe if they didn't eat donuts all day every day...

I'm just trying to figure out what "local tax" and "MTA tax" are.

More donuts To eAt?

Just Kidding.

And there is no State sales tax in Texas. Houston sales tax is %8. 25 or thereabout so it works out about the same whatever you call it.

Couldn't find thermostats at Genos website but I'll definitely keep looking.

Call Geno's. They do not have everything on the web site that they sell. I haven't figured that one out.

Got my 180 from Cummins Atlantic in Oct of last year for $24. 04, was to lazy to install myself had dealer change anti-freeze and change out the thermostat, not 'too' bad..... R, J. B. ;)

Bought a thermostat today.

It was the 180 degree unit for a Cummins ISB, not the Dodge ISB which is a 190 deg. unit.

The 180 was $16. 88 and the 190 was $17. 15.

Those are the fleet prices from Bridgeway Cummins, those should be standard prices for all Cummins Authorized Dealers in the US. Taxable walk in customer is probably 20 - 30% higher.

Cummins Rocky Mountain - Denver

$96. 07 for

7-gallons complete premix $57. 47

1-gallon chemical cleaner $21. 72

1- 180 degree T-stat #3954194 $16. 88

$2. 81 in taxes

just so you all know, the thermostat you get from dodge, for about 30 dollars, is the same cummins part number as the one from cummins, only 20 dollars less.

Bought one from Cummins Cumberland in Louisville, KY back in early Winter $18-$20 somewhere in there. Sounds like you need to go back there to them and :-{}

I guess I can't gripe too much if it isn't the same part number. I can say though, that the fix worked like a charm. Old thermostat: with slide-in and boat in tow, 70mph or over, I could watch the needle rise above 190*+ (never let it go much higher 'cause I slowed down). New stat, compleat refill and 2 bottles of water wetter: stays at 190 or slightly less no matter what I do including 10 hours of 70-85 loaded in 95+ degree gulf coast weather. Peace of mind is a good thing-- even if it costs too much!

hey thats a good attitude, take your beating and be happy the truck works! Don't feel bad my brother just ordered an '04... wow he got beat up pretty bad but hey it is a new one i guess. He wouldn't go for finding an '03 and saving the money. To each his own, that's what is great about captialism.

Just saw the post about the $55 T Stat

All I can say is that since you're in Houston - have you checked to see if ENRON took over that Cummins Site??
