Buddyof mine at work has a 04 - 555. With his predator set on 100hp his clutch is slipping on initial acceleration. The truck only has 38,000 miles on it.

Does this sound right? I figure it would take a lot more mileage or more hp to make it slip this early.

if it makes 100hp it is probably close to 200 lb ft and that could slip it, some hold better than others, and if it has been abused it may be glazed over, or hot spotted, the pressure plate gets weaker when it overheated and that will reduce the holding force. -robert

My Bully Dog torque Dog set on 90hp slips my Torque Converter lockup clutch. I'm taking it off and using a Banks Six Gun.

J,

That six gun ain't gonna help you. I had clutch wear with an Edge EZ set at 70hp. You might want to upgrade the transmission. You might be surprised at what is floating around in your transmission pan, I know I was before the ATS stuff went in. These 48RE's will handle a stock motor reliably if taken care of, but you start throwing HP and torque #'s at it from some of these boxes, things are going to break. Just my . 02, been there, done that.

jnelson -- I had an 80hp box and I never felt mine slip. As soon as I went higher on power, it would occasionally slip, just like you described. It was like that, but still very usable for two or three months. At about the fourth month, it was slipping worse, even on the 80hp level that previously didn't slip.

I ended up having a Southbend clutch installed. I plan on twins and have the EZ and TST PMCR stacked so I chose the dual disk series. Mine is a little grabby and the pedal pressure has increased, but I don't mind it considering the new holding power. In fact, I was able to put so much more of my power to the ground that it felt as if I had added more power. :D

Peter at Southbend is great at helping choose the right clutch and will take care of you if any issues arise.
