My 03 exhaust smell is pretty strong compared to my 94 (normal conditions - warm weather, warmed up, at idle). Is this just a function of more fuel and improved combustion? Are the 600's with their emissions controls any better on the stink?
My sister-in-law said my 600's exhaust smells like Elmer's Glue . I never thought of that, but since she metioned it, it does kinda. Not so much now that is has 3200 miles on it vs. 400 when she said that.
Joe there have been a number of posts talking about the 305's exhaust smell. It smells strong like it doesn't burn super clean or something. When I was driving around Montana at high elevation & cool weather and was following a '03 Ram the smell was very strong and almost obnoxious. And the smell of my truck after warmed up and idling was very strong.
My thought is under normal driving and idling the injection pressures are low and fuel doesn't atomize as well but it's good enough to meet emissions. At higher power levels fuel pressure is higher for cleaner burn, miniming emissions. It could be the EPA has an emissions cap instead of lowered emissions across all RPM and power levels. So it could be the HPCR system is set up to allow more emissions at low power levels but cut them at higher power levels.
It's hard to smell the exhaust smell over the obnoxious (& noxious) crankcase blow-by fumes coming from the draft tube (unless you put your head near the exhaut pipe outlet).
