Well mine gets 11. 2MPG on a good day, but I can guarantee you that if any part of your TDI meets my front bumper by accident, one of us is walking away scratch-free and one of us isn't. ;)

'09 demo diesel Jetta available.

My buddy's general manager of Bob Baker VW in Carlsbad,Ca. He's invited me to drive a demo '09 Jetta diesel. He's already got orders in,but is bummed that VW is not going to increase the overall supply of Jettas, just equip 35% of them w/diesel technology. I imagine when I lift the hood it's going to be jammed with stuff we can't understand. This one's plastered with decals,so no one's gonna mistake it for a stocker. They're going to retail for about $24,000. Anybody in the area who wants to test one out can pm me for his personal #.

My 1991 Ford Festiva keeps plugging away with a consistant 43 mpg despite 200,000 miles on her. I would seriously consider a TDI VW though when the time comes...

Jeepit... when I drive the Jetta I only get 45/46 also. I drive it a little on the hard side... . 75/80 on the highway, etc.

Yes she is driving it hard. :-laf

Thats great!! don't you just laugh when people say they are sorry for you cuz you have to pay the high price of diesel?

Yup. ;)

You know, I was at the dealership yesterday to have a new key/with remote made ($200.) and they had an '09 sitting there. The only thing better about that car over my old one is its got 140hp.

jeepit:

The best we ever got with the Jetta was 46mpg Maybe the wife is beating this thing when I'm not around.

The dirty little secret is that I drove like grandma to get that kind of mileage. :-lafWell, sort of. 55 mph, coasting to stop, no a/c, that kinda stuff.

And anyone thinking those are flimsey, hasn't actually LOOKED at one... ;):-laf

LESSEE - a 4 ton tank for protection in case of a collision - at 20 MPG - OR a GTI that might not survive as well against a brick wall - but gets 50 MPG... HMMmmmm - let me think about that... :-laf

Choice is pretty easy, if the vehicle is only used for "people" transport - maybe not quite as easy for one that sees serious hauling of other stuff - and comparing the 2 types is apples/oranges for many folks... ;)

Matt, 57? You suck! #@$%! I just got 13. 7 with my 1500 gasser. One of the better mpg tanks of fuel. POS!
