8000 miles on a 02 Q cab with HD 6 speed. Decided to change fluid over to Amsoil 5W-30 HP. Drained fluid into measured container. Got about 3 and 3/4 quarts out. No leaks on transmission. It looks like Mexico measures fluid different than here. Point of this post is, , check your fluid level if you have a new truck, cause it's prolly short serviced. Getting the 4. 5 liters (9. 5 pints) back in the trans was a trick. Jacking left side of truck helps. Moral of story is I'm glad I didn't go yankin heavy stuff with a low fluid level in the box.
I just had a new NV 5600 installed since my first one had a defective gear set. When I took delivery of this truck I had trouble with 2nd to 3rd shifts and really had to fight to get it into reverse. Cruising down the highway and go to pull out and pass and snap bang... 6th gear gone.
This new trans is better. The dealer told me DC told them to fill it to 6 liters! I think the best way to fill these is to carefully do it from the shifter housing in the cab. I drained some off and added some different lube modifier from Lubetec and that helped to nearly eliminate any notchey shifts.
My truck had 93,000 kilometers on it when the trans failed.
Of course it was slightly better then stock when this happened.
