5'er behind a 4WD

Anyone had any problems towing a 5'er behind their 4WD? My 97 was a 4WD and I had no clearance problems, but my new 01 is real close. It doesn't seem any higher, and I know the trailer hasn't changed but now i only have about 3 to 4 inches between the top of the bed and the trailer.

You must have a new hitch in your new truck that doesn't have the same dimensions as the old. Check for adjustability on the height of the hitch. Also, can you raise (extend) the 5er leg to increase clearance? I had a 3500 that I towed a Holiday Rambler with, and the only problem I had was the toolbox interfering with the trailer in sharp turns. Where are you working? Do they need any help? My old lady wants her own new Ram... .

The 01,s are a little higher, sounds like
your going to have to do the axle under the spring thing. They say you need about 6 inches between truck and trailer. If your trailer has the ajustable
axle maybe you can make it that way. Good luck

I took the hitch out of my old truck and put it in the new truck, so i know that's all the same. The trailer i pull is a 34' Weekend Warrior toyboy... it already sits pretty high so I really don't want to flip the axles. I was talking to a friend of mine that said he heard DC makes a kit to lower the rear so it makes the truck level, which wouls solve my problem at the same time... . I work in and around Riverside, CA...

Henry... your question just hit me... . duh!

I made her wait 6 years to get her own... . after i sold our last GM to buy my last truck... . This year she finally said she was tired of driving a car, so I gave in!

Jasond DC does have lowering for your truck
It,s over 600 bucks. You get 2 shocks,2 blocks and 4 u bolts and a height sensor
rod. It lowers it 1 7/8 inches at the axle. It ends up to be 3 inches or more at
the back, It,s almost to low. After that
you need front end alignment and headlights
ajusted. Have a good one

I have 5" clearance with my new HR 5er. I know its not the recommended 6" buts its not a perfect world. Wouldnt want it any closer. BTW,The 2001s are 2" higher in the rear then the 99s.

Picked up my new Alpenlite today. Ordered the high axle setting (factory swaps the axles) and I have 8" clearance in the front and 7" in the rear. My previous rig had 7 inches on my 98. 5 2500 and 6 inches on the new 2001 3500. The old trailer (8600 UVW) dropped the tail on the 3500 about 1. 5 inches. The new trailer (12000 UVW) drops the 3500 by 2. 5".
