Gonna need to get a new exhaust for my truck here in the next couple of weeks (Damn Michigan winters:mad:) Pretty sure that I am gonna go with Rips exhaust as I really have never heard anything bad about it and Rip has always given me very good service.

My question is with my truck (see sig below) is there any benefit of going with a 5inch system other than the "Holy cow thats huge" factor? About the only other mod that I am gonna do it a set of mild injectors like some 275RV's.

Would there be any detriment to performance/mileage with the bigger system (not enough back pressure, to low of EGT's etc)? How is the fit with the 5in system and the spare tire in the stock location? Any interference there or anywhere else. ? How is the sound of the 5inch vs the 4inch system.

Basically talk me out of the 5 inch system, LOL. If anyone has experience with the 5inch Rip system that would be great. 4inch guys can chime in too.

Thanks

The most noticable difference will be the exhaust tone sounds much better. I went from stock to a Farmboy Performance 5 inch staight pipe exhaust. Made a HUGE improvement, in turbo spool up time, lower egt's, and sounds GOOD.

Go with the 4" you will have a stronger bottom end and not get driven out of the truck by noise. I have seen very few trucks running 5" where the spare was not very tight

If you are looking for the WOW factor, go with the 5". If you are lookin for functionality and value, the 4" is a better choice. I haven't had both on my truck, but I have a 4" and a friend down the road has a similar setup on the truck (same year, gear axle, trans, and both 4x4, but his is a long bed and mine is a short bed) and he has a 5". He and I have talked about loads and speeds and there isn't any difference in temp. I didn't notice a drop in temp. until I changed the elbow coming off the stock turbo to that banks elbow.

dual 5 inch stacks. yeah it takes up bed space, yeah it's a little louder in the cab, but man it sounds freaking great when you roll into the throttle. i took mine out for 4 months because I wanted the bed space back. I put them back in last weekend because I missed the sound.

You'd see absolutely zero performance difference between the 4" and 5" with your setup. I'd definitely go with the 4".
