A while back I read on the Geno's site in 96-98 engine specs that a destructive torsional resonance occurs at 4100 rpm and crank and rod failure at 5400 rpm.

Based on that info and an automatic transmission, I was going to limit a gsk to 3000 rpm and try to defuel at about 32-3300 rpm.

What does it take to keep these engines alive at 5k ? Will the good torque convertors stay together at that rpm ?

I'm not planning on doing this to my grocery getter, but ?????

Thanks, Tom

Missed this thread before. Mine will run out to about 5500 with a 13mm pump with custom springs. Very touchy throttle - not fun on the street, but driveable if you're determined enough :). I'd love to try a set in a 180 pump for a street truck.

my 4k's are a click tight... free revving slowly, once the revs hit 1000 the climb almost on their on to 1500... and if you free rev above that and let off the pedal, the RPM will hang slightly at 1500rpm and drop slowly to 1000. I kept meaning to back them off a click, but now I'm so used to it I don't even notice :)

Dang, I didn't even think about that! Mine does that too and I was thinking it was the old pump..... see you teach me too.

BOTW, Saturday's runs were with the 4K's, just didn't have time to deal with it last minute.

I know Garrett (Bobcat on DTR) tried them and couldn't ever get them to run right no matter what he did, so he went back to a 4k

I tried a set of Lenny's (Dynomite Diesel Performance) 5k springs. . Not fun. We tried adjusting them several times, even swapped back to 4K springs at Indy after killing the truck (with an auto) at the Peru pull when hooking up to and unhooking from the sled. I was NOT happy.

The power & response was great though!

I will be sending a set of them along with my pump and will see if they can be calibrated to make it idle normally.
