Hi,

Birthday trip to my father's in Toronto sounds like it will get expensive.

I started from a traffic light yesterday and got a massive POW from the transmission after the vehicle started rolling. No load, no trailer, etc. I started up again and all seemed ok. .

Today it has done the same thing twice, only in first.

QUESTION TO 911 readers:

Do I risk driving 500 miles home on Saturday or bite the bullet and look for service here in Canada?

I hear no other noises and all seems well in higher gears. .

Thoughts, advice, experiences?

This is a 99 24V with 5 spd and should hit 100Kmiles on the way home... (does DC put a timer in the damn truck??)

I f you take the trip home I would baby it. . Start in second I would rather have the truck die (if it must) near home where I feel I get a good mechanic on it.

bad time of the year to get DOA in east BFE

fix it if you have the $$ to do so... or be sure to have a list O phone #'s when you head out home [maybe some guys with a G/N trailer]

I'd keep your travel companion with you. Mine is in my Glove box. I haven't needed it yet... but if I do I know where it is.

I'd just take it easy.

Does it happen in all gears, or just 1st? I'd start out in 2nd and get it checked out when you get home.

Made it home...

Thanks for the replies!

I made it home ok with no more strange 1st gear problems.

The truck did not like shell diesel bought in Toronto, got some coughing when climbing hills on the 401.

Ah well, made it home with 400 miles left on the 100K extended drivetrain warranty. Not that I expect anything good to come out of that... . :)
