Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 5spd shifter question

I have asked a couple of times if its possible to interchange a 98 5spd shifter with a 97-and later. Got a couple of "I don't think so's" and not much else.



Well now I have a buddy who has a broken 98 5spd and said that I could have the top off of it if it would work with my transmission.



My friend seems to think that if the forks are the same then his top will just swap into my transmission and I can have the shorter straight 98 model 5spd shifter that I've wanted for a while now.



Just wondering who I can contact about this like Standard Transmission or someone who deals with these transmission's all the time who can give me a bottom line yes or no?

5-speed shifter question

Call Michelle at Standard Transmission, she knows her stuff about the NV4500.

On my 97 the the shift tower is part of the top cover. I believe on the newer ones the shift tower unbolts from the top cover and i believe that is where the difference is. Somebody kick in here that knows for sure please.

It will not fit the 98 and up are bolt on and the 97 and back are spring loaded

You can change the entire tower assembly which is the aluminum top cover and the shifter assembly. See TDR#31, p. 25.
