Anybody have or know of a transmission cooler that can be hooked up to the nv4500 and circulated through a trans cooler mounted up front????????

First... . why?

Are you having an overheating problem?

You should be able to fabricate one using parts available from a racing / aftermarket supplier such as Summit or Jeg's or even somebody like JC Whitney.

It will be expensive. 12V gear pump (+100), aeroquip hose and fittings, plus a good air to air heat exchanger. Another 100-200 depending on what quality you choose.

The transmission is pretty bullet proof as long as you don't run 5th gear at less than 1600 while towing. A friend of mine has a 96 like mine except a 4X4 with 251K on the transmission and clutch. I have 138K.

Maybe it;s the quality lubricant we use (Royal Purple MaxGear 75W90, also available at Jeg's).

Good luck.

I bought a pair of Fast coolers, they bolt up on either side where the rectangular plates are. Unfortunately I didn't have a trans temp gauge gefore I installed them so I can't tell you if there was an improvement... ... what I can tell you is the highest oil temp I've seen (and it was while pulling a 2200 lb boat) is 150 on a 75 degree day, running at 70 mph. I'm pulling a 13,000 lb 5er to Utah next month, that ought to test them better.

Guess I need to hook up a sender to find out my temps. I put on the fast coolers. Run the castrol syntorq but also haul heavy loads up to 35k gross. With the 4. 10's seems any extra cooling would be very beneficial.

I have the fast coolers on a 6spd. There was a post that a guy installed them on his truck and brought the temp down 40 degrees while pulling the same load and same conditions.

If you wanted to fab one you could make it like a rear end cooler on a stock car. Belt drive it off the driveshaft and use a power steering pump. Use a trans cooler for the heat exchanger. If you went with used parts, I bet you could build one for less than $100.
