OLD SCHOOL RAT ROD meets DODGE 3500...

Are any of you using the 5th Airborne Air Ride Coupler or something of equal value to it... .

If so I'd like a product report on if you feel this has been a benefit to you...

I know there are a couple of other brands but my web search hasn't found them so that information would be nice as well...

Thanks.....

BTW if one of you would be willing to take some digital images and forward them I'd be real appreciative of that.....

I have an easy rider air ride 5er hitch. Two of them actually. I love it. On my gooseneck trailer I put in a kingpin on it so I can use the 5er hitch. I need to sell one of the 5er hitchs and also have a bumper pull air ride I would like to sell. I got such a deal on them I couldn't pass it up.

I have a 5th Airborne on my toyhauler. It has made an incredible difference in the ride quality of the truck! I wont ever go back to a regular pin box.

When I watch the trailer in the rear view its amazing how much it moves compared to the bed of the truck.

I'll see if I can get some pics later today for ya.

I have the Sidewinder (short bed mega cab) and I know it is not the airborne version, it works awesome and the quality seems to be very nice, and it allowed me to use a cheap hitch (18K Reese) and still be able to turn beyond 90* with my shortbed truck. I think the quality and worksmanship is pretty high in there products. Scotty

I am going to get the combo fifth airborne and sidewinder. . My 36' toyhauler is pretty heavy and I have a 2nd gen SB. I already put a hle in the cap and it cost 500 to fix so def. worth it for us SB trucks.

Wow am I getting an education... . thanks for the info..... but what I'm looking for is those brands of hitches... that fit on the pin box... . like the 5th airborne... .

All my trucks have the same goose neck hitches in them. . so I have one 5er hitch I move from truck to truck... . what I'm really looking for is the pin box hitch for my 5er with air ride??? hope this makes sense... .

Thanks. .

I am interested in these hitches also. My major question is related to trailer hitch air ride systems vs 5th wheel platform air ride systems like air safe. The 5th wheel air ride systems cost ~ 2X the pin air ride systems. Are they worth the difference? What are the pros & cons of the two systems?

I would guess with the pin set up you only pay for one bag. no lines/valves or multible bags. Its just a lot easier with the pin.

The hitch air system can be used on many diff trailers, while the pin only on the one trailer.

I have the Trailair on my Cedar creek and its very nice. Its a night and day difference over the standard pin. I will never tow without it again.

We are usually slow in the winter here... and I'm looking for winter projects...

I have to build a new bed for a 5500 on order and at the same time I thought I'd build a new pin hitch for my new trailer... . We send stuff to both a water jet and laser all the time so a few more pieces to water jet and weld really isn't an issue for us... .

The web sight for the trailer air gave me the dimensions of my stock pin and with a tap measure I was able to figure out the rest... . I've got the air bag on order now and I'm guessing its 60 days away from being done... .

I would like to thank you for the review...

I've got the 5th airborne on my trailer. It is virtually the same as trailair but inside out. The shock and air bag are on the inside. Not ugly looking with it's guts on the outside(air bag is out of the elements). Look at Camping World's web site, they carry them with good pics.

Got the combo unit ordered today. . a good site to see these and order is www.tlcentral.com

you have to know the model of the pinbox you have to order. my trailer had a sticker on the top.

my unit is $1300 for the air ride and turret swing combo. Around 700 for either / or.

I'll take pictures and post how I like it. . going to go on weekend on Labor day.

Air pinbox

I stressed for awhile on which air hitch pin to get. Did a lot of talking/asking about the different ones.

Airbourne is slightly cheaper than the Trailair but on several installs it required some torch work to make it fit on the trailer. Trailair has its "parts" exposed and the Airbourne does not. No big deal to me.

I decided on a Trailair, ordered it over the phone and had it delivered to me in a RV resort in Az last spring. Several residents helped me install it there in my site. No problems and everything fit perfectly. Took about 3 hours. Threw the old hitch away.

My 5th. whl. is a 33' Mobile suites pulled by a 2004. 5 Dodge dually. The end result... ... ..... the trailer rides 100%+ better than before. No up/down shaking on rough roads. I did pick up a slight front/back bumping that was not there with the standard pinbox. Overall it is a big improvement and I would do it again. Trailair company is a good company to do business with.

Jack,

I ordered the Airborne and I see that there will have to be some mods to get the bracket to fit on mine as well.

Here is the photo of the parts. The upper left part is the box mount. . The inside width of the brackets of my box is 12 1/2"... The width of the mount is 11 7/8"... . also the pattern of the holes is off by about 1/4 to 1/2"

Here is the old pin box. You see the 6 bolts on the side, these are welded to the trailer and the pin box slid out from between these. I bought the RV5 Kingpin extension to help the turning radius with my Short bed truck. I still hit my trailer but can turn much sharper.

So I will be contacting a welder to get the mount to fit

It was the wrong part and it was mis labeled for the application.

The part for the mounting said ST-200 and I needed ST-100 for the pin box I have. . So they are sending it out and I can send the other back with a return label... So wait a few more days to get that... oh well

Use it as is. . I calculated that I wont need the extender to make sharp turns. . It [the extender] is for sale if the new hitch works good.
